Chapter 4 : The Dawn of Disruption

The boardroom of the Scullen Corporation was a cathedral of glass and steel, overlooking a city that looked small and inconsequential from the 80th floor. Arthur Scullen sat at the head of the table, his face a mask of predatory calm. His hands were clasped, knuckles white, as he looked at the empty chair where his daughter should have been.

"The merger is delayed," Arthur lied to the board, his voice booming with forced authority. "Evelyn has been... unwell. The stress of the transition has been significant."

Suddenly, the massive monitors at the end of the room flickered to life. The faces of the board members went pale as raw, unencrypted files began to scroll across the screen: wire transfers to foreign intelligence officers, proof of illegal chemical dumping in the Midwest, and private recordings of Arthur himself discussing the 'elimination' of business rivals.

The doors to the boardroom slammed open. It wasn't security. It was a phalanx of federal agents, led by the very people Evelyn had been quietly nurturing in the regulatory sector.

Evelyn walked in behind them, wearing a sharp, charcoal suit that felt like armor. She didn't look at her father with hate; she looked at him with the chilling indifference one reserves for a broken machine.

"The merger isn't delayed, Father," she said, her voice cutting through the shocked silence of the room. "The merger is dead. And so is your influence."

Arthur stood up, his face reddening, his composure finally snapping. "You realize what you've done? You've destroyed the family legacy! You’ve destroyed your own inheritance!"

"I never wanted an inheritance built on corpses," Evelyn replied, walking to the head of the table and placing her hand on the mahogany surface. "I wanted a clean slate. And tonight, I finally get to write the first line."

The agents moved in, surrounding Arthur. He tried to reach for his phone, to call his fixers, but the room had already been swept of its signal. The empire he had built on fear and silence was being dismantled by the very daughter he had underestimated. He looked at her, searching for the submissive child he thought he knew, but all he saw was a predator who had finally grown tired of the cage.
