Chapter 2: The Unraveling

The police arrived not as guests, but as a force of nature. They didn't just walk in; they flooded the mansion, their heavy boots scuffing the pristine marble. The lead investigator, a woman with eyes that missed nothing, went straight to the security server.

While the woman in purple was being questioned in the library, Rosa was being tended to by the paramedics. She wasn't a suspect anymore; she was a witness. She sat on a velvet chair, shivering, watching as the house she had served for twenty years turned into a theater of exposure.

Julian stood in the center of the foyer, feeling the mansion—once a place of warmth and memory—transform into a tomb of secrets. He felt a deep, hollow ache where his trust had once resided. He had loved his family blindly, assuming that wealth and stature were shields against malice. He was wrong. The higher the pedestal, the darker the shadows beneath it.

The investigator emerged from the library, her face grim. She carried a tablet displaying the recovered data. "She didn't just frame the maid," the investigator told Julian. "She had been skimming from the estate’s accounts for years, using offshore shells to cover her tracks. She killed your grandmother not just for the inheritance, but to stop the audit."

The woman in purple was led out in handcuffs. She didn't scream, and she didn't plead. She walked with a stiff, prideful gait, looking at no one. As she passed Rosa, she spat a single, venomous word, but the maid didn't recoil. Rosa stood up, her back straight, and looked her tormentor directly in the eyes. For the first time, the maid was the master of her own dignity.
