CHAPTER 6: The Eviction Notice

I uncapped the heavy fountain pen.

The nib scratched smoothly across the thick parchment paper of the trusteeship agreement, my signature flowing cleanly and decisively across the dotted line: Elena Sterling.

As the final stroke of ink dried, a deep, resonant chime echoed through the ancestral estate—the master grandfather clock in the main foyer striking nine o'clock. To anyone else, it was simply the passage of time. But to everyone in this room, it was the definitive tolling bell of a new era.

Mr. Caldwell bowed slightly, a gesture of profound respect that he had never once offered to any member of the Sterling bloodline.

"Congratulations, Madam Trustee," Caldwell said softly. "The estate is yours."

Arthur remained crumpled on the floor on his knees, staring blankly at the polished wooden planks where my signature had just stripped him of everything he had ever known, owned, or expected to inherit. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, but no sound came out. The billionaire heir had been reduced to a beggar in his own dining room.

Eleanor slumped back in her chair, her face pale, aged by a decade in the span of an hour. The invincible matriarch had been brought to her knees without a single punch being thrown, defeated entirely by the weight of her own family's arrogance and cruelty.

"Security," Mr. Caldwell called out, his voice sharp and authoritative.

The two massive guards stepped back into the dining room immediately, their posture rigid and ready.

"Escort Mr. Sterling and Mrs. Sterling to the west wing guest quarters," Caldwell instructed calmly. "Give them one hour to pack their personal belongings into standard suitcases. At ten o'clock sharp, transport vehicles will arrive to remove them from the property."

"Remove us?" Eleanor shrieked, finding a sudden surge of outraged energy as she leaped out of her chair. "You can't evict me from my own home! I lived in this house for forty years! My blood, sweat, and tears are built into these walls!"

"Your husband’s lawyers built these walls, Eleanor," Caldwell replied flatly. "And your husband’s legal documents state that upon revocation of executive status, all non-trust beneficiaries must vacate the primary ancestral estate within sixty minutes to allow the new trustee to take up residence."

Arthur finally found his voice, a desperate, pathetic screech escaping his throat as he scrambled to his feet. "You can't do this! I have meetings tomorrow! I have a car in the garage! I have accounts—"

"Your corporate credit cards, vehicle keys, and personal bank accounts tied to the Sterling Trust were deactivated at 8:45 PM, concurrent with the reading of the codicil," Caldwell interrupted smoothly. "As for your car, the keys have already been surrendered to estate management. If you require transportation to the local bus station, security will kindly provide a ride."

"This is illegal! This is kidnapping! This is theft!" Arthur raged, lunging forward once more, but the two security guards intercepted him effortlessly, pinning his arms behind his back with practiced efficiency.

"Take them out," Caldwell commanded.

As Arthur and Eleanor were hauled out of the dining room, their angry protests and weeping echoing down the grand hallway, the heavy double doors swung shut behind them once more. This time, there was no deadbolt lock. There was no need for one. The house now belonged to me.
