Chapter 11: The Seeds of Tomorrow

Spring returned to the city with a sudden, joyful burst of warmth. The cherry blossoms along the lakefront were blooming in soft pink clouds, and the air smelled of green grass and fresh rain.

At the Marsh Foundation’s headquarters in the heart of downtown, the atmosphere was buzzing with celebration. It was the two-year anniversary of the Foundation’s national restructuring, and the inauguration of the new Nathan Marsh Memorial Community Center—a state-of-the-art facility providing free childcare, legal aid, and job training for thousands of local families.

In the private holding room behind the main auditorium, Della stood in front of a full-length mirror, adjusting the collar of her cream-colored silk dress.

Her reflection showed a woman transformed by time, hardship, and love. The lines around her hazel eyes were soft, carved by laughter rather than tears. On her left hand, the simple platinum wedding band glinted beneath the lights, alongside the crescent scar on her palm.

The door opened, and Luca stepped inside. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, looking as striking and formidable as ever, though his eyes softened the moment they landed on his wife.

"The mayor just arrived," Luca said, stepping behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder just as he had done so many times before. "And Matteo is outside trying to stop Natalie from giving legal advice to the reporters."

Della burst into laughter. "She’s six, Luca. Who is listening to her?"

"The local news anchor," Luca replied dryly. "She convinced him that children under eight should be exempt from bedtime regulations under the Geneva Convention."

Della turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck. "She gets her relentless negotiating skills from you, you know."

"I deny all responsibility," Luca murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.

They held each other in the quiet room, listening to the muffled roar of applause and conversation echoing from the crowded auditorium outside.

"Are you ready?" Luca asked softly, scanning her face.

"I’ve been ready for a long time," Della answered. She reached into her small clutch purse and pulled out a small, white envelope. She held it out to him.

Luca frowned slightly in confusion. "What's this?"

"An update on our financial allocation for the new shelter wing," Della said, her eyes sparkling with a secret joy.

Luca opened the envelope, pulling out a folded piece of paper. But it wasn't a financial ledger.

It was an ultrasound photograph.

Stamped at the top were the words: 12 Weeks. Healthy.

Luca froze. The formidable CEO, the man who could navigate corporate wars without breaking a sweat, stared at the tiny black-and-white image as if he were trying to translate an ancient language.

He looked up at Della, his dark eyes wide with shock, wonder, and a sudden, breathtaking vulnerability. "Della...?"

Della smiled, tears of pure happiness shimmering in her eyes. "Natalie is going to be a big sister in November."

Luca let out a breath he seemed to have been holding for a lifetime. He dropped the paper onto the vanity table, cupped Della’s face in his large hands, and pulled her into a passionate, desperate kiss that conveyed everything words could never say—his gratitude, his devotion, his endless love for the woman who had pulled him out of the dark.

When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against hers. A single tear escaped his eye, tracing down his cheek.

"I love you, Della," he whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion. "More than my own life."

"I know," Della whispered back, kissing his cheek. "Now come on. We have a center to open."
