Chapter 8: Echoes of Betrayal

The private jet touched down smoothly on the tarmac in Singapore under a heavy tropical

downpour. Clara and Marcus descended into the humid night air, escorted by local security to an

armored convoy waiting on the runway. The regional summit at the Marina Bay financial center

was scheduled for dawn, and every minute counted.

Inside the secure cabin of the lead vehicle, Marcus reviewed the encrypted comms logs. His brow

furrowed deeply, a shadow crossing his rugged features. He looked up from his tablet, locking

eyes with Clara.

"Boss, we have a critical leak," Marcus said quietly, ensuring the driver couldn't hear. "The

Singapore regional directors received our confidential itinerary and restructuring terms four

hours before we even landed. Someone inside our inner circle in New York transmitted the

encrypted files."

Clara didn't blink. Her expression remained chillingly composed, though her mind raced. "Who

had access to the master server credentials?"

"Only three people outside of us: Jonathan Hayes, our Chief Operating Officer; Evelyn Vance,

head of Investor Relations; and David Chen, our senior security architect," Marcus whispered.

"Jonathan has been with the firm for a decade. Evelyn is family-tied. David built our encryption

walls."

A heavy silence settled inside the car as it sped along the expressway, rain drumming against the

bulletproof glass. Betrayal from within was the oldest, most painful wound in corporate warfare.

Alexander might have been locked away, but his poisonous influence had clearly seeped deeper

into the corporate ecosystem than anticipated.

"Do not confront any of them," instructed Clara calmly, turning to look out at the blurred neon

lights of the city. "If we trigger the alarm prematurely, the mole will simply cover their tracks and

destroy the secondary evidence. Instead, we feed them false intel. Tonight at the summit, we

announce a phantom restructuring plan targeting the Asian supply chain. We watch who reacts,

and we see which external competitor makes a move."

Marcus nodded slowly, a grim smile touching his lips. "The trap will be set before sunrise."

Clara closed her eyes for a brief moment, breathing in the cool air of the car. Betrayal could sting,

but it also served a vital purpose: it purified the ranks. By morning, the traitor would reveal their

hand, and Clara would sever the infected limb with absolute precision.
