Part 2: The Edge of Betrayal

"You’re protecting her over me? After everything we planned, Ethan?" Chloe screamed, her perfect white gown shaking with violent rage.

Ethan didn’t lower the weapon, his grip tightening around the cold metal as his eyes flared with a lethal, protective instinct.

"She is my mother, Chloe. Your sick little games end tonight, right here by this pool," he replied coldly.

The older woman, Margaret, clung to the wet concrete edge, her blue shirt weighted down by the freezing pool water.

Her tearful eyes drifted from her furious son to the woman she had once welcomed into their family with open arms.

"I gave you everything, Chloe. Why would you want to destroy us like this?" Margaret cried out, shivering.

"Because you didn't deserve any of it!" Chloe spat, stepping dangerously close to the edge of the dark water.

"This house, this wealth, your son's love—it was all supposed to be mine as a final payment for the past."

Her face twisted into a grotesque mask of hatred, completely stripping away the beautiful facade she had worn for months.

"I know about the offshore accounts, Chloe. I know you've been draining my mother's estate since day one," Ethan revealed.

Chloe’s breath hitched instantly, her confidence shattering as she realized her elaborate, multi-million dollar scam had been completely exposed.

"You think you can prove that? I signed nothing! The paperwork is clean!" she shot back defensively, panicking.

"Not according to the files your former partner just handed over to the authorities," a new voice called out.

The shadows near the main glass doors parted, revealing two police officers stepping onto the illuminated, wet concrete patio.

Chloe spun around, her high heels slipping slightly as her eyes widened in pure, inescapable horror at the scene.

"Chloe Vance, you are under arrest for grand larceny, fraud, and the attempted murder of Margaret Vance," the officer stated.

Before she could even think of running toward the dark garden, the officers moved in quickly, grabbing her bare arms.

The cold iron handcuffs clicked shut around her wrists, a sharp contrast to her elegant, expensive white silk dress.

Ethan finally lowered his weapon, rushing forward to pull his freezing, traumatized mother out of the deep pool water.

He wrapped a thick velvet towel around her shaking shoulders, holding her close as she finally sobbed with relief.

Outside, the distant red and blue lights of police cruisers painted the dark estate in a somber, final glow.
