CHAPTER 2: The Gathering Storm

He explains that for legal action, they need a professional forensic examination—not just a doctor, but someone who specializes in documenting domestic violence. Alexander, utilizing his vast resources as a high-powered attorney, makes a private call to a trusted colleague, Judge Sterling, who opens a private wing at a secure clinic. He also calls his personal security team, eight imposing men who silently take positions outside Elena’s door.
Sofia, overwhelmed by the sudden shift, realizes the gravity of what is happening. She reveals that Javier still has her phone and all her identification. Alexander assures her that is being handled. His first priority is her safety and securing the medical evidence needed to destroy the Robles family.
The Robles' Strategy Simultaneously, across Dallas in the Robles’ mansion, Carmen is furious. The hired women have reported back that Sofia escaped. Carmen realizes her plan failed. She immediately calls Javier into her office. Javier is terrified not of what he did, but of his mother’s wrath. Carmen berates him for failing to secure the condo before the wedding. She lays out a new plan: They must go on the offensive. They will report Sofia "missing" and claim she had a "psychotic break" due to wedding stress, suggesting she is dangerous to herself.
Carmen orchestrates a social media campaign, posting tearful photos of the "missing" bride, planting seeds that Elena and Alexander kidnapped Sofia to prevent her from being a dutiful wife. They leverage their connections in the Dallas social scene to paint the Lincolns (Elena and Alexander) as unstable.
The Confrontation at the Condo The next morning, accompanied by police and private security, Alexander, Elena, and Sofia arrive at the Uptown condo. They intend to retrieve Sofia’s belongings and formally change the locks. When they arrive, they find Carmen and Javier already inside, having used duplicate keys. Carmen is playing the victim, crying to the bewildered officers about her "poor daughter-in-law."
The scene explodes. Carmen attempts to physically block Sofia, claiming she is "mentally unwell." Alexander steps between them. Towering over Carmen, he drops his professional demeanor and unleashes years of repressed fury. He informs the police that Sofia has been severely assaulted and that they are executing an emergency protective order. He lists the criminal charges being filed against Carmen (assault, false imprisonment, conspiracy to commit extortion) and Javier (complicity, failure to protect).
Javier crumbles under the pressure, crying that his mother made him do it. Carmen is arrested on the spot, glaring daggers at Elena and Sofia as she is led out in handcuffs. Javier is detained for questioning. The police clear the condo, returning it to Sofia.
