Chapter 5: The Breach

The breakthrough came at 3:00 AM. A sudden blackout hit the estate—the result of a localized power surge Julian had managed to trigger. For the first time in months, the cameras went dead. The silence was total, and for once, it was glorious.

Sarah didn't hesitate. She moved through the darkness, her feet memorizing the path she had walked a thousand times as a prisoner. She reached the security console in the basement. Using the bypass code Julian had hidden in a birthday card months ago—a code she had thought was just a joke until now—she initiated a master override. The doors didn't just unlock; they reset to factory defaults. The alarms were deactivated.

Suddenly, the basement door burst open. Marcus stood there, illuminated by the beam of his tactical flashlight. His face was a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. He hadn't just been waiting; he had been anticipating the blackout. "I knew you were capable of something," he growled, drawing a sidearm from his waistband. He didn't fire; he wanted her to witness the absolute end of her hope. "You really thought you could outsmart me in my own house?"

Sarah stood her ground, the flash drive clutched tightly in her palm. "This isn't your house, Marcus. It’s a tomb. And I’m finally walking out."
