CHAPTER 6 : CAGE AND ASHES

Back in the maximum-security federal penitentiary thousands of miles away, the reality of absolute ruin had finally broken the once-untouchable billionaire.

Julian Vance sat on the edge of his cold, bolted metal bunk, staring at the blank concrete wall. The news of the global syndicate's total collapse had reached the prison yard days ago. The guards didn't look at him with fear anymore; they looked at him with utter contempt. His money was gone, his associates were in prison or dead, and his name had been entirely expunged from the corporate registry—legally erased as if he had never existed.

The heavy steel door of his cell block clanked open, and a guard tossed a fresh mail envelope onto his bunk.

Julian didn't move for a long time. Finally, with trembling, calloused hands—hands that had once signed multi-million-dollar acquisitions—he picked up the envelope. There was no return address. Just his inmate number written in clean, elegant, familiar handwriting.

He ripped it open. Inside was a single printed document: the official liquidation summary of his former empire, stamped with a bold red seal reading ZERO BALANCE, alongside a photograph of the sunlit Swiss Alps, peaceful and completely untouched by the storms of the world.

Julian let out a ragged, guttural sob, crushing the paper in his fists as he slid down onto the cold concrete floor. He was a ghost trapped in a tomb of his own making. His arrogance had cost him everything, and the woman he had tried to crush had built an entire world of freedom upon the ashes of his ruin.
