Chapter 2: The Hidden Truth

Chapter 2: The Hidden Truth
"Is it because of my family's company?" Ethan demanded, stepping closer, his shadow looming over her. "Did Julian promise you a share of the merger if you married me and leaked our financial secrets? Tell me the truth for once in your miserable life!" His heart shattered again as he watched her silence confirm his worst fears.
"I loved you, Ethan," she sobbed, looking up through the rain, her mascara running down her cheeks in dark tracks. "At first, it was just a job. Julian threatened my family's estate. But then I genuinely fell for you. Please, you have to believe that part! The love I have for you is real!"
"Real love doesn't sleep with the enemy the week before the wedding," Ethan said, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. He turned his back on her permanently, walking toward his sleek black sports car. He unlocked it, threw himself into the driver's seat, and slammed the door, shutting out her desperate cries completely.
The engine roared to life, a powerful beast cutting through the quiet panic of the night. As Ethan sped away from the venue, he glanced in the rearview mirror. Clara was a small, tragic figure in white, kneeling in the rain, abandoned by the man she tried to ruin, and discarded by the destiny she chose.

Two hours later, Ethan sat in the dimly lit library of his family’s estate, a glass of amber scotch untouched on the desk. Sarah sat across from him, looking exhausted but fiercely protective. "There's more, Ethan," she said softly, sliding a thick manila folder across the mahogany wood. "Julian isn't just trying to take the company."
Ethan opened the folder, his eyes scanning the financial documents and translated text messages. His blood ran cold as the full scope of the conspiracy unveiled itself. Clara hadn't just been cheating; she had signed over her future power of attorney to Julian, giving him total control over Ethan's shares the moment they said 'I do.'

"If I had kissed her and said 'I do,' my family would have been entirely bankrupt by tomorrow morning," Ethan murmured, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He looked at Sarah, gratitude washing over his anger. "You didn't just save me from a toxic marriage, Sarah. You saved our entire family legacy from destruction."
"I did what any true friend would do," Sarah replied, placing a reassuring hand over his trembling fingers. "But Julian still thinks he has an advantage. He doesn't know I intercepted the final transmission. We have exactly six hours before the stock market opens to freeze Clara’s access and turn the tables on them."
