Chapter 20: The Lioness Wakes

By Thursday, the internet was at a fever pitch. Marcus’s page had announced a "live reveal" scheduled for Friday evening. Gossip blogs had picked up the story, and the speculation was running wild. The pressure was immense, suffocating. Their PR team advised them to release a sterile, legally vetted statement denying all rumors.

Leah refused.

"A piece of paper with legal jargon doesn't inspire empathy," Leah argued, pacing the floor of their home office while Evan and their lead attorney, Sarah, watched. "It makes us look guilty, like we're hiding behind lawyers. Marcus is using the court of public opinion. He’s using Facebook's appetite for drama. If we want to win, we have to use the same platform, but we change the currency."

"What currency?" Sarah asked skeptically.

"He's trading in lies and sensationalism," Leah said, stopping to look directly at Evan. "We are going to trade in radical, undeniable vulnerability. I am not going to let him define the narrative of my family. I am going to speak directly to the public."

Evan walked over and took her hand. He saw the fire in her eyes, the unstoppable force of a mother protecting her den. "What do you need me to do?"

"Nothing," Leah said softly. "This is about how they're framing me as a victim, and you as a tyrant. I need to be the one to dismantle it. I’m going to go live on my own Facebook page tonight. Right now, in fact. Beat him to the punch."

Sarah gasped. "Leah, an unscripted live video? The risks are astronomical. If you stumble, if you say the wrong thing, they will clip it and use it against you."

"I won't stumble," Leah said, her voice carrying the weight of a woman who had already survived the worst life could throw at her. "Because I'm not spinning a PR strategy. I’m just going to tell the truth."

She set up her phone on a small tripod in the sunroom. The background wasn't heavily produced or glamorous; it was just their home, filled with books, family photos, and the soft light of a desk lamp. Leah sat down, took a deep breath, and pressed 'Go Live'.
