Chapter 3 : The Architect of Ruin

Chapter 3 : The Architect of Ruin
The week leading up to the board meeting was a game of shadows. I played the part of the invalid to perfection. I stayed in my chair, I let Vanessa flaunt her affairs with my associates, and I watched as the vultures circled the carcass they thought I had become.
Vanessa spent her days "managing" my affairs, which consisted of signing documents that would legally strip me of my voting rights. She was so blinded by her greed that she didn't notice the subtle shift in the household. I had replaced the staff’s loyalty with my own security team, posing as servers and gardeners. Every conversation, every forged signature, and every backroom deal was being recorded.
On Thursday night, the night before the final blow, Vanessa entered my room without knocking. She didn't bother to hide her disdain.
"You look pathetic," she said, tossing a document onto my lap. "Just sign the proxy agreement. It’s for the best. You’re in no condition to lead."
I looked at the paper. It was a complete surrender of my assets. "And if I don't?"
"Then I’ll make sure the public sees exactly what you are," she hissed. "A shell of a man. I’ll leak the medical reports—the ones I paid your doctor to falsify—stating that you’re suffering from permanent neurological decline. You’ll be institutionalized before the month is out."
I felt a cold rage settle in my chest, but I kept my face slack. "You've thought of everything, haven't you, Vanessa?"
"I've thought of my future," she corrected, turning on her heel. "You’re just the obstacle in the way."
As soon as she left, I signaled to my security lead. The plan was in motion.
Clara brought me dinner, her face etched with worry. "They are planning to announce your 'voluntary retirement' during the opening remarks tomorrow, sir. They have the press waiting outside the boardroom."
"Let them," I said. "Let them invite the whole world to watch."
I looked at Clara, who had been the only one to show me grace. I reached out and took her hand. "Clara, tomorrow, you will be the one standing at my side. Not as a maid, but as my guest of honor. Are you prepared for the storm?"
May you like
She didn't hesitate. "I have seen the way they treat people, sir. I am not afraid of them."
That night, I didn't sleep. I prepared. I checked the audio files, the legal injunctions, and the trap I had laid for the board. They wanted a show? I would give them a performance that would leave the city in shock. The man in the wheelchair was a ghost, and the man who was about to rise would be the one who redefined everything.
