Chapter 3: The Sanctuary Under Siege

The hospital, once a place of quiet recovery, transformed into a theater of tactical precision. Elias moved through the corridors like a specter, his presence obscured by the chaos he had orchestrated. He had triggered a fire alarm in the administrative wing, forcing the security staff to relocate and leaving the central server room vulnerable. Sarah, now trembling and compliant, led him toward the heart of the facility, her every step a calculated gamble for her own preservation.

Inside the server room, the air was cold, chilled by high-powered cooling fans that drowned out the world outside. Elias didn't need to be a tech wizard; he just needed the access codes Sarah had been forced to surrender. As the screen scrolled with thousands of files—records of stolen medication, falsified charts, and systemic abuse of the elderly—the scale of the atrocity became clear. It wasn't just Sarah. It was a business model.

"You're not the only one, are you?" Elias asked, his back to her as he downloaded the final encrypted batch. He could hear her breathing—shallow, rhythmic, scared. "The head physician, the head of nursing, the regional director—all of them skimming from the top, while they left the most vulnerable to starve in their beds." He turned, his eyes piercing through her facade. "You're a small piece of a much larger, darker puzzle, Sarah. And you’re the first piece I’m going to flip."
