Chapter 3: The Aftershocks of Truth
The morning after the gala, the city’s digital landscape was a storm. The footage of Clara’s humiliation had gone viral within hours, trending globally under the hashtag #JusticeForSarah. In the opulent office of Julian’s family firm, the atmosphere was far from celebratory. The board members sat in stiff-backed chairs, their faces etched with the kind of cold, calculated pragmatism that had built the city's skyline.

"You’ve turned our flagship event into a public relations catastrophe, Julian," the Chairman remarked, tapping a pen against the mahogany table. "We are a brand that sells perfection. We don't sell 'dramatic reconciliations' or 'social justice.' You’ve opened a door that we can never close."
Julian leaned forward, his hands clasped firmly. He was no longer the playboy socialite the media painted him to be; he was a man who had seen the rot beneath the gilding. "If selling perfection requires us to look away while innocent people are humiliated, then the brand is already dead. We didn't create the scandal, Chairman. Clara did. We simply stopped pretending it was acceptable."
Outside the glass-walled boardroom, Sarah was working, though her life had changed in ways she was only beginning to understand. She was no longer just the maid; she was a symbol. Packages and flowers began arriving at the estate’s entrance, sent by strangers who had been moved by her quiet defiance. But with the adulation came the scrutiny. The tabloids were digging into her past, looking for a way to discredit her, to find one mistake that would balance the scale back in favor of their fallen queen.

Julian found her in the library, where she was meticulously organizing the files that Clara had left in disarray. "They’re coming after you, Sarah," he said, his voice low. "The people who protected Clara—they’re looking for dirt. They want to prove that you aren't the 'hero' the internet claims you are."
Sarah looked up, her expression calm. "I have nothing to hide, Julian. I was a maid, not a saint. If they want to search for my flaws, let them. But they won't find a thief."
