Chapter 5: The Ledger of Secrets
Sarah’s confidence stemmed from a secret she had guarded for years. As the maid of the Sterling estate, she was the silent observer of everything. She hadn't just cleaned rooms; she had organized files, handled correspondence, and witnessed the private meetings that the board assumed were confidential.

For years, she had kept a record—not out of malice, but out of a survival instinct. She led Julian to a hidden safe in the base of a grandfather clock in the study, a space she had used for years to secure the family’s sensitive documents when they were too intoxicated or careless to do so themselves.
"They think I’m an illiterate servant," Sarah said, pulling out a thick, leather-bound book. "But I can read, Julian. I’ve seen the real numbers. Clara wasn't just stealing jewelry; she was embezzling from the foundation to cover her boyfriend’s gambling debts. And she wasn't doing it alone. She had help from the very board members who are trying to fire me today."
Julian flipped through the pages, his eyes widening. It was all there: the wire transfers, the fake vendor names, the signatures of the men who were currently questioning Sarah’s integrity. This was the nuclear option.

"If we release this," Julian whispered, "the entire firm goes down. Not just Clara. The Chairman, the directors—everyone."
"Then let it go down," Sarah replied. "The house is rotten, Julian. You can’t fix it by painting over the mold."
