Chapter 15: The Song of the Earth

Chapter 15: The Song of the Earth

On a warm summer evening, as the sun set behind the blue ridges of Oakhaven Springs, the entire family gathered on the long back terrace of the farmhouse.

The string lights hanging from the old oak trees looked once again like low-hanging stars—not like the cold, deceptive lights of two years prior, but like warm, welcoming beacons of a true sanctuary.

Richard sat in his rocking chair, holding little three-year-old Clara on his lap, telling her stories about the old draft horses that used to pull timber down the mountain.

Julian stood near the grill with David, laughing and sharing stories about the valley's new conservation projects.

Audrey walked out onto the porch carrying a large platter of fresh green mole and warm homemade bread, setting it in the center of the wooden table. She leaned down and kissed Clara softly on the cheek.

"Dinner is ready, Mom," Audrey said, her voice filled with deep, everlasting affection.

Clara looked around the table.

She saw her husband, steady and proud. She saw her son, redeemed and standing tall in honest work. She saw Audrey, radiant and secure in a life of deep love. And she saw the little grandchild whose laughter filled the valley with fresh hope.

She picked up her glass of sweet tea, lifting it into the warm evening air.

"To this house," Clara said, her voice ringing with quiet, sacred grace. "To the truth that keeps us safe, to the love that heals our wounds, and to the family we chose to build."

"To family," everyone echoed around the table, their voices blending into a harmonious song that floated over the rose gardens, over the clear river waters, and into the everlasting mountains of Oakhaven Springs.
