Chapter 4: The Meridian Vault

Chapter 4: The Meridian Vault
By 8:00 AM the next morning, Victoria was standing inside the subterranean, heavily guarded vault of the Meridian Trust downtown. The air down here was dense, smelling of ancient steel and absolute security.

Accompanied by the bank’s chief compliance officer and two armed federal marshals, Victoria approached Box 412—the locker registered under Arthur Vance’s forgotten corporate alias.
The compliance officer inserted the master override key, and with a heavy mechanical click, the steel door swung open.
Inside lay a single, dust-covered leather ledger and a heavy, encrypted microcassette recorder. Victoria carefully pulled the ledger out, flipping open the water-stained pages. It wasn't just corporate fraud recorded inside these pages. It was a detailed, meticulously documented ledger of political assassinations, forced corporate takeovers, and systemic judicial bribery spanning thirty years—all directly controlled not by Julian, but by the matriarch who had trained him: Eleanor Vance, who was currently serving a life sentence in a maximum-security medical facility upstate following her own conviction.
"Agent Vance," one of the marshals spoke up, looking over her shoulder. "This implicates half the federal judiciary and three sitting senators. If this goes public, it's going to trigger a national constitutional crisis."

Victoria closed the ledger slowly, her expression as cold and unyielding as the steel vault around her.
"Let it burn," Victoria said softly, her voice echoing in the concrete enclosure. "Justice doesn't pick and choose which names are too powerful to print."
