Chapter 5: Dawn Over the Capital
Within forty-eight hours, the contents of Box 412 triggered an unprecedented, sweeping federal purge.
Special agents, acting under direct warrants signed by the Attorney General, descended upon the homes and offices of corrupted officials implicated in the ledger. The scandal rocked the nation’s capital, stripping away the invisible shields that had protected the country's elite criminal class for decades.

Victoria sat at her desk, watching the rolling news coverage on her desktop monitor. Pundits screamed, politicians scrambled to issue frantic press releases, and the old guard of untouchable corruption was systematically dismantled from the top down.
Her office door clicked open. David, her senior intelligence analyst, stepped inside, holding a fresh Manila folder.

No appeals left."
Victoria nodded slowly, tracing the edge of her silver federal badge with her thumb. "And Elena?"
"She’s boarded her flight to Geneva," David smiled faintly. "New identity, completely secure, under our witness protection protocol. She’s safe, Chief."
Victoria stood up, walking over to the large floor-to-ceiling window. The sun was breaking through the heavy morning clouds, casting a brilliant, blinding light across the city skyline below. The shadows of the past had finally been dragged entirely into the open, exposed to the cleansing heat of accountability.

She straightened her jacket, her hand resting firmly on her holster. There would always be new shadows, new predators who believed their wealth and power made them gods among men. But as long as she wore the badge, they would never outrun the light.
Turning away from the window, Victoria walked out of her office to brief her team. The mission was never truly finished, and she was ready for the next call.
