Chapter 3 : The Fall of the Western Wing

The corporate execution of the Vane family was not confined to the academy walls. By 2:00 PM, the shockwaves had traveled straight to the financial district of Manhattan.

In the high-ceilinged executive office of Vane Asset Management, Harold Vane—Beatrice’s father—stood staring at a bank of monitors displaying flashing red tickers. His phone was ringing continuously, a frantic, discordant chorus of panicked institutional investors demanding answers.

The double glass doors to his office swung open without a warning click.

Two men in identical navy suits stepped inside, followed immediately by Victor, the Global Head of Legal Compliance for the Vance Conglomerate. Victor carried a heavy leather briefcase, his expression entirely devoid of human empathy.

"Harold," Victor said, his tone flat and dangerously quiet. "Step away from the terminal."

"Victor! What is the meaning of this?" Harold shouted, his face flushing a violent crimson as he slammed his hands onto his mahogany desk. "My daughter called me screaming from the academy! She said she was removed by uniform officers! This is an unprecedented violation of our donor agreement!"

Victor didn't raise his voice. He walked to the desk, opened his briefcase with two crisp metallic clicks, and slid a single sheet of watermarked paper across the glass.

"Your donor agreement was contingent upon strict adherence to Section 4 of the Academy Charter: the absolute protection and dignity of the student body," Victor explained, his sharp eyes locking onto Harold’s pale face. "Your daughter physically assaulted the primary shareholder's daughter on a live security feed. The Chairman watched the entire incident from the London boardroom."

Harold's breath caught sharply in his throat. The mahogany desk suddenly felt like a sinking ship beneath his palms. "The... the broken girl? The one on the financial aid registry?"

"Her files were a security blind," Victor replied coldly. "A protocol designed to let her live like a normal teenager before assuming control of the family estate. You allowed your daughter to turn that campus into a personal feudal ground. Now, the bill has arrived."

Marcus’s tablet grid flashed an alert on Victor’s terminal.

"The board has just executed the default clause," Victor continued, adjusting his cuffs. "Vane Asset Management is officially blacklisted from all federal and private asset allocations under the Vance umbrella. Your credit facilities are frozen. Your margin calls are due at 4:00 PM. You have two hours to vacate the building before the federal receivers take possession."

Harold collapsed back into his leather executive chair, his eyes wide and completely hollow. The empire he had spent thirty years building through high-society curation and aggressive positioning had been dismantled in exactly one hundred and twenty seconds—all because of a bowl of soup and a fragile, arrogant ego.
