Chapter 4 : The Breaking Point

The confrontation happened at the docks. The rain had turned into a torrential downpour, turning the river into a churning, black void. Julian stood under the flickering amber light of a rusted streetlamp, his hands raised, waiting.

The black sedan pulled up, blocking his path. Two men stepped out—the fixers. They were professionals, men whose job was to ensure the "management" was successful. They didn't talk; they moved with a mechanical, brutal efficiency.

"She wants you back, Julian," one of them rasped, pulling a silenced pistol. "Or she wants you gone. Either way, the files go to Zurich."

Julian stood his ground, not out of bravery, but out of necessity. He had uploaded the account numbers, the dates, and the recordings of his mother’s phone calls to a secure, public-facing server—a dead-man’s switch. He tapped his phone screen, sending a message to the authorities and the media. "It's done," he said, his voice steady. "The world is going to see exactly how your 'management' works."

The look on the fixer’s face changed from cold calculation to genuine confusion. They weren't prepared for a martyr. They lunged for the phone, and for the first time in his life, Julian fought back. He wasn't a fighter, but he had something they didn't—a reason to live. He used the environment, the slippery metal stairs, the dark shadows of the shipping crates. It was a messy, brutal, and desperate struggle.

Just as the fixer prepared to deliver a fatal blow, sirens wailed in the distance. The police. Julian had calculated the timing perfectly. The fixers hesitated, knowing that exposure was the one thing they couldn't survive. They retreated, disappearing into the night, leaving Julian broken, bleeding, and alive on the cold concrete.
