By sunrise, police cruisers packed the driveway of the Sterling estate. The captured intruder had broken under interrogation, revealing that Victor Vance had personally paid him a fortune to break into the mansion, steal the incriminating ledgers, and frame the incident as an armed robbery.
Detectives arrested Victor Vance at his penthouse apartment at dawn. Meanwhile, Eleanor, realizing her father’s empire was crumbling and her legal protections were shattered, went into hiding.
Inside the estate study, Julian, Clara, and Mrs. Sterling met with the District Attorney and the lead financial auditor.
"The evidence is overwhelming, Mr. Sterling," the District Attorney stated, closing a thick case file. "Victor Vance’s offshore accounts match the fraudulent wire transfers from the Sterling Foundation going back twenty-four years. Furthermore, we found documents proving that your late uncle Richard and Victor illegally seized shares belonging to Martha Vance—Clara’s grandmother."
Clara blinked in shock. "Martha... Vance?"
Mrs. Sterling smiled warmly, tears welling in her eyes. "Your grandmother was Victor Vance’s estranged half-sister, Clara. When your great-grandfather passed away, he left half of the original Vance logistics firm to Martha. Victor lied, forged documents, and stripped her of her inheritance, reducing her to working as a housekeeper."
The revelation hit Clara like a bolt of lightning. She wasn't just a former maid; she was the rightful co-inheritor of the Vance family fortune—a fortune built on the stolen legacy of her grandmother.
"This means," Julian said, turning to Clara with a look of immense pride, "that you hold controlling interest in Vance Global Logistics—the very company Victor used to launch his hostile takeover against Sterling Enterprises."
