Chapter 3

Chapter 4: The Unseen Shadow
The digital investigation spearheaded by Thomas and Vance Global's elite cybersecurity unit moved at a blistering pace. Within forty-eight hours, the origins of the encrypted call were traced not to Zurich, but to a heavily guarded, private waterfront estate on the coast of Long Island.

The man behind the shadow game was Victor Vance—no relation, despite the shared surname, but rather an infamous international shipping magnate and financial racketeer known in intelligence circles as a corporate vulture. Victor had been silently funding Arthur Sterling's riskier ventures, using Sterling Enterprises as a front to launder capital through international maritime routes. When Victoria dismantled the company overnight, she inadvertently severed Victor's primary laundering pipeline, locking up nearly half a billion dollars in frozen international accounts.
"He's panicking," Thomas explained, standing in Victoria’s private office as he projected satellite imagery of the Long Island estate onto the smart-glass wall. "Victor's syndicate relies on absolute liquidity. With our legal teams locking down the Sterling accounts, his overseas creditors are breathing down his neck."
Victoria sat behind her desk, her fingers steepened beneath her chin as she studied the blueprints of Victor’s waterfront stronghold. "He thinks by calling me with veiled threats, he can intimidate me into quietly releasing the frozen funds back into his shell accounts."
"Shall I dispatch our security detail to handle him?" Thomas asked, his hand resting near his lapel.
"No," Victoria replied coolly, a faint, dangerous smile touching the corner of her lips. "Vandals and thugs like Victor operate in the shadows because they rely on fear and backroom deals. If we send private security, it becomes a turf war. We are going to fight this out in the light of day—using federal law, international trade regulations, and absolute financial annihilation."
"How do you want to proceed, ma'am?"

"Prepare a comprehensive evidentiary package containing every single wire transfer, shell company ledger, and money-laundering route connecting Victor's syndicate to Arthur Sterling," Victoria instructed, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "Deliver it directly to Agent Elizabeth Carter at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with a formal petition from Vance Global for emergency asset seizure under the RICO Act."

Thomas’s eyes widened slightly in admiration. "You're going to hand the Feds the exact key to lock him away for the rest of his life."
"I don't just want to freeze his accounts, Thomas," Victoria said, standing up and smoothing the lapels of her blazer. "I want to strip him of every single asset, every ship in his fleet, and every illusion of power he possesses. When you threaten my family, you don't get a warning. You get a federal indictment."
