CHAPTER 5 : THE LION'S DEN

CHAPTER 5 : THE LION'S DEN
The atmosphere inside the glass-walled executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Vance Tower was suffocatingly tense. Ten of the city’s most powerful investors sat around the massive polished obsidian table, whispering nervously. At the head of the table stood Silas Thorne, projecting a perfectly manufactured aura of grave concern.
"Gentlemen, it brings me no joy to call this emergency vote," Silas spoke, his voice dripping with false sympathy. "But the scandal involving Julian's fiancée has tanked our stock by twelve percent in three days. Furthermore, Julian’s erratic behavior and Eleanor's failing health leave this company completely vulnerable. For the sake of the shareholders, I must step in as acting CEO."
Several board members nodded in quiet agreement, reaching for their voting pens.

"Nobody is voting today, Silas."
The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open violently, crashing against the glass walls. Julian strode into the room, radiating an aura of absolute authority that made the temperature in the room plummet. Right beside him walked Nora, her head held high, projecting a fierce, unbreakable confidence.
Silas’s smug expression faltered for a fraction of a second, his eyes locking onto Nora. "Julian, this is a closed executive session. And you brought... the household staff?" he sneered, attempting to regain control of the narrative.
"I brought the majority shareholder," Julian corrected sharply, his voice echoing off the glass walls.
The board members murmured in confusion as Julian and Nora walked to the head of the table. Nora opened her briefcase, pulling out a stack of legally certified documents, and tossed them onto the polished obsidian surface.
"My name is Nora Vance," she announced, her voice steady and ringing with absolute clarity. "I am the biological daughter of the late Richard Vance, and the rightful heir to the phantom trust. The DNA verification was authenticated by the federal courts this morning."
The room erupted into shocked gasps. Silas’s face drained of all color, his polished facade cracking completely. "This is absurd! A desperate forgery!" he shouted, pointing a trembling finger at the documents. "She is an imposter trying to steal your wealth!"
"The only person stealing wealth is you, Silas," Julian countered coldly, pressing a button on the boardroom remote. The massive digital screen behind them flared to life, displaying a web of bank transfers, offshore accounts, and emails.
"We traced the routing numbers from Rebecca's secret accounts," Julian explained to the horrified board members. "They lead directly to shell corporations owned by Silas Thorne. He orchestrated the poisoning of my mother and hired Rebecca to infiltrate my life to ensure the Vance bloodline was eliminated, giving him full control of the default shares."
"Lies! You have no absolute proof!" Silas roared, stepping backward toward the exit as panic finally seized his rational mind.

"Actually, we do," Nora said, pulling a sleek black smartphone from her pocket. "Rebecca didn't want to take the fall alone. When the federal prosecutors offered her a reduced sentence in exchange for the mastermind’s name, she sang like a canary. She handed over every encrypted message you ever sent her."
The sound of heavy boots echoing in the corridor outside made Silas freeze. The game was over.
