Chapter 12 - Whispers in the EliteThe Upper East Side social scene was buzzing with a ferocity unlike anything seen in decades. Exclusive private clubs, upscale brunch spots on Madison Avenue, and luxury salons were alive with only one topic of conversation: the spectacular, radioactive fall of Julian Vance.

At an exclusive private ladies' lounge, three prominent socialites—women who had previously fought tooth and nail for invitations to Julian and Evelyn's annual charity galas—were sipping mimosas and whispering eagerly over their tablets.
"Can you believe it? Twenty-five years in federal prison!" gasps Chloe, a diamond-adorned socialite who had once flirted openly with Julian right in front of Evelyn. "I mean, I always knew he was arrogant, but a criminal mastermind running offshore money laundering schemes? It's like something out of a movie!"
"And did you see the video from the gala?" chimed in Beatrice, adjusting her designer sunglasses indoors. "Screaming at a seven-year-old child and accusing her of stealing a family heirloom just to cover up his own paranoia? Absolutely vile. No wonder Evelyn packed up and vanished into thin air."
"Speaking of Evelyn..." Chloe lowered her voice, leaning in across the marble table. "Has anyone heard from her? Where is she? Some people are saying she fled the country. Others are saying she orchestrated the entire federal leak herself."
Beatrice shook her head, her eyes wide with newfound respect. "If Evelyn really engineered that leak... then she is the most brilliant, cold-blooded tactical genius in New York. We all thought she was just a quiet, submissive trophy wife who let Julian walk all over her. Turns out, she was playing four-dimensional chess while Julian was playing checkers."

The women fell silent as they looked at the latest headlines flashing across their screens. The Vance dynasty was officially dead. The penthouse was seized by federal marshals, the corporate assets were liquidated, and the name Vance had gone from being a symbol of untouchable power to a punchline of utter disgrace.
None of them knew where Evelyn and Lily were hiding. But deep down, every socialite in Manhattan shared a quiet, unspoken realization: never, ever underestimate a mother pushed to the edge.
