Chapter 5 : Absolute Ruin

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom burst open once again, but this time, it wasn't corporate lawyers who entered. It was a squad of federal agents in tactical gear.

"Richard Blackwood! Victoria Blackwood!" the lead agent barked, flashing a badge. "You are both under arrest for corporate fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy to commit murder. Put your hands where I can see them!"

Total pandemonium erupted. The high-priced lawyers Richard had brought with him immediately backed away, raising their hands in surrender and loudly declaring they were no longer representing the Blackwood family.

"Marcus, please!" Victoria shrieked, dropping to her knees on the expensive carpet. All her vanity, all her cruel pride had vanished, replaced by the pathetic begging of a cornered coward. The designer clothes and diamond rings suddenly meant nothing. "I'm your wife! We can fix this! I didn't want Elena to die, my father made me do it! Please don't let them take me!"

Marcus walked around the table, looking down at the woman who had terrorized his niece and murdered his sister. He felt absolutely nothing for her but pity.

"You made your choice, Victoria," Marcus said coldly, his voice echoing in the chaotic room. "You chose a life of greed and cruelty. Now, you will reap exactly what you sowed. Enjoy federal prison. I hear yellow isn't exactly their color."

Richard Blackwood tried to fight the agents, roaring threats about his wealth and political connections, but he was swiftly handcuffed and dragged out of the room, looking like a frail, broken old man. Victoria was hauled up by her arms, sobbing uncontrollably as the cold steel cuffs snapped around her wrists.

As they were marched down the glass-walled hallways of Vanguard Holdings, the entire staff stood and watched in absolute silence. The great Blackwood dynasty had been completely utterly eradicated in a single morning. They were left with absolutely nothing—no money, no status, no freedom. The karma was absolute.

Marcus stood alone in the boardroom, watching the flashing police lights fade into the Manhattan traffic far below. A heavy, exhausting weight finally lifted from his shoulders. The monsters were gone. His sister was avenged. But more importantly, his niece was finally safe.

He pulled out his phone and dialed his private driver. "Bring the car around. I'm going home to my daughter."
