Chapter 3: The Cold Light of Morning

The sprawling, ultra-modern compound Julian called home sat high on the cliffs of Malibu, usually a sanctuary of glass, steel, and breathtaking Pacific views. Tonight, it felt like a fortress under siege. The massive iron gates locked securely behind his armored SUV. He didn't wait for his driver to open the door; he stepped out into the crisp night air, cradling a completely exhausted, sleeping Lily in his arms.
Inside, the house staff had been completely cleared out for the night, save for his most trusted head of security, Marcus. A former Navy SEAL with a scar cutting through his left eyebrow, Marcus took one look at Julian’s soaked tuxedo and the pale, shivering child in his arms, and his expression instantly hardened into stone.
"Sir?" Marcus asked, his voice low, a hand instinctively hovering near his concealed weapon.
"Elena is in police custody. Attempted murder," Julian said, his voice completely hollow. He didn't stop walking, carrying Lily up the grand floating staircase toward her bedroom. "Lock down the estate. No one enters. No one leaves. Cancel all my meetings at the studio tomorrow. If Viktor’s name appears anywhere near our perimeter, you have authorization to use whatever force necessary to stop him."

Marcus nodded once, pulling out his encrypted radio. "Consider it done, Mr. Vance."
Julian laid Lily down in her massive, star-themed bedroom. He gently pulled the thick covers up to her chin. She stirred slightly, her small hands tightly gripping the edges of the blanket as if she were still clinging to the edge of that terrifying pool. Julian sat in the velvet chair beside her bed for hours, staring into the dark. He was a man who built a multibillion-dollar cinematic empire. He created illusions, produced blockbuster movies, and spun stories out of thin air. But the horror he had witnessed tonight was no movie. It was a visceral, terrifying reality.
His phone vibrated endlessly in his pocket. TMZ, Hollywood Reporter, and every major news outlet were already running the story. Billionaire Film Mogul’s Fiancée Arrested at Eccentric Mansion Party.
Julian finally pulled the phone out and dialed his lead corporate attorney, Clara Hayes. She answered on the first ring, despite it being 3:00 AM.
"Julian, I’m seeing the alerts," Clara said, her voice sharp and immediately professional. "Tell me you didn't do anything that compromises your custody or the company."
"She threw Lily into Viktor's shark tank, Clara," Julian whispered, his voice finally breaking under the massive weight of the trauma. "To get the trust fund. To get the studio."
There was a long, chilling silence on the line. When Clara finally spoke, her tone had shifted from corporate lawyer to an absolute apex predator.

"I am pulling a team together right now. By sunrise, Elena won't just be in a holding cell; we are going to freeze every asset, sever every contract, and legally obliterate her existence. But Julian... Viktor hosted that party. Viktor owned that shark. Do you honestly think he didn't know?"
Julian looked out the window toward the crashing waves below. "I think Viktor is the one who wrote the script. And I’m going to make sure he burns for it."
