Chapter 16: Wedding Preparations

The autumn leaves had turned brilliant shades of amber, copper, and crimson, blanketing the Whitmore estate in a breathtaking tapestry of seasonal color.
Inside the grand dressing room on the morning of the wedding, the atmosphere was filled with soft laughter, nervous excitement, and the sweet scent of white roses and lavender.
Maria stood before the full-length gilded mirror. She wasn't wearing a traditional, overly elaborate meringue gown encrusted with diamonds that weighed fifty pounds. Instead, she wore a stunning, elegant gown of fluid ivory silk, designed with delicate lace sleeves and a sweeping, graceful train. It was classic, timeless, and completely her.
Eleanor stood behind her, carefully fastening a delicate antique pearl hairpin into Maria’s dark hair—a family heirloom passed down through generations of Whitmore women, now given willingly to the daughter who had saved them.
“There,” Eleanor whispered softly, meeting Maria’s eyes in the mirror. “Perfection.”
Maria turned around, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “Thank you, Eleanor. For everything. I never imagined... after everything my family went through... that I would ever feel like this.”
“You didn't just join this family, Maria,” Eleanor said gently, taking her hands. “You healed it. You brought light back into these old stone walls.”
Suddenly, the door burst open. Lily waltzed in, looking like an absolute angel in a white tulle dress with a matching flower crown resting on her dark curls. She held a woven basket filled with rose petals.
“Mom! Grandma! Uncle Nathan is waiting outside and he looks so nervous!” Lily giggled, bouncing on her patent-leather shoes.

Maria laughed, wiping a happy tear from her cheek. “Is he, Lily? Should we go rescue him?”
“Yes!” Lily declared, grabbing Maria’s hand. “Let’s go get married!”
