Full Story : The calculated lie that fell apart the moment the police arrived.

"Ethan, it hurts... please save our baby," Chloe whimpered, her voice a fragile thread snapping against the cold marble floor. Her fingers clutched his black shirt, staining it with the terrifying reality of her sudden fall. Ethan’s tears fell onto her pale cheek, his heart shattering into a million pieces as he looked at her crimson-stained yellow gown.

Above them on the grand staircase stood Victoria, the woman in the sparkling red dress, her breath catching in her throat. The echoes of Chloe's scream still vibrated through the vast foyer, leaving a suffocating silence in their wake. Victoria’s hands trembled against the marble balustrade, her eyes wide with a mixture of horror and cold calculation.

"What did you do, Victoria?!" Ethan roared, his voice trembling with a deadly fury that shook the massive crystal chandelier above. His eyes, usually filled with warmth, were now dark storms of pure hatred as he glared up at the woman he once trusted. The betrayal cut deeper than any physical blade ever could in this cursed house.

"It was an accident, Ethan! I swear, she slipped!" Victoria cried out, taking a panicked step backward into the shadows of the upper hallway. Her voice lacked its usual sharp confidence, replaced by a desperate, high-pitched plea for innocence. But the guilt radiating from her posture was undeniable, a stark contrast to the pure innocence of the victim below.

Ethan ignored her lies, pressing his hand gently against Chloe’s trembling stomach, trying to anchor her to reality. "Stay with me, Chloe. Keep your eyes on me, my love," he pleaded, his voice breaking as he pulled out his phone with a shaking hand. He dialed emergency services, his frantic words tumbling out in a breathless, terrified rush.

The dispatcher's calm voice on the line felt like a cruel joke compared to the chaos unfolding in the mansion. Ethan demanded an ambulance immediately, his eyes never leaving Chloe’s rapidly paling face. Her breathing was shallow, her eyelids fluttering as she fought against the dark tide of unconsciousness threatening to pull her under completely.

Victoria slowly crept back to the edge of the stairs, her mind racing to construct a flawless alibi. She needed to manipulate the narrative before the authorities arrived to unravel her perfect life. Looking down at the couple, a sinister thought crossed her mind; if Chloe didn't survive this night, the truth would die with her forever.

"Don't you dare come down here!" Ethan snapped, noticing her movement without even looking up from his dying wife. His tone was ice-cold, a chilling promise of retribution that made Victoria freeze in her tracks. He wrapped his suit jacket around Chloe, trying to keep her warm as her body began to shiver violently from shock.

Sirens wailed in the far distance, a lonely sound cutting through the thick, oppressive night air surrounding the estate. Chloe’s grip on Ethan’s hand suddenly loosened, her head lolling to the side as she finally lost her battle for consciousness. "No, no, no! Chloe, stay awake!" Ethan screamed, his world collapsing into absolute darkness.

The heavy front doors burst open, and a team of paramedics rushed inside with a gurney and medical bags. They immediately swarmed around Chloe, pushing Ethan back gently as they began their frantic work to stabilize her. The bright, sterile energy of the medics completely shattered the dark, gothic tension of the mansion's foyer.

Victoria watched from above, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird as the police followed closely behind. Two officers approached the staircase, their eyes locked onto her shimmering red dress, which now looked like a beacon of sin. She tried to smooth her hair, attempting to project the image of a grieving, shocked sister.

"Ma'am, please step down here with your hands visible," the lead officer commanded, his hand resting cautiously on his holster. Victoria swallowed hard, her throat dry, realizing that the walls of her carefully constructed empire were beginning to crumble. She slowly descended the marble steps, each click of her heels sounding like a countdown to her doom.

"I tried to catch her, officer," Victoria lied smoothly, her voice dropping into a soft, sorrowful whisper as she reached the bottom. "She was dizzy from the pregnancy and lost her footing. It all happened so fast." She squeezed out a single, calculated tear, looking toward Ethan for support, but found only a wall of pure fire.

"She’s a liar! She pushed her! I saw the shadow!" Ethan shouted, his voice cracking with raw emotion as paramedics lifted Chloe onto the gurney. He wanted to tear Victoria apart, but his priority was the woman fighting for her life. He climbed into the back of the ambulance, leaving the police to deal with the monster.

The ambulance sped away into the night, red and blue lights painting the trees in ghostly shades of warning. Inside, the medic worked tirelessly, checking the baby's heartbeat while Ethan held Chloe’s limp, cold hand against his cheek. He prayed to every god he knew, begging for a miracle he wasn't sure he deserved.

Back at the mansion, the flashing lights cast long, distorted shadows across the grand entrance where Victoria was being questioned. The officer wasn't buying her performance; the angles of the staircase and the physics of the fall didn't align with a simple slip. Suspicion hung heavily in the air, thick and undeniable as a coming storm.

"We’re going to need you to come to the station for a formal statement, Ms. Vance," the officer said coldly. Victoria’s mask slipped for a fraction of a second, a flash of pure malice crossing her elegant features before she recovered. She nodded gracefully, knowing she needed to contact her lawyers immediately before the trap snapped shut.

Meanwhile, the ambulance arrived at the hospital, its doors flying open into the chaotic, bright world of the emergency room. A trauma team met them at the entrance, immediately wheeling Chloe toward the operating theater. Ethan was forced to stop at the double doors, watched helplessly as his entire universe disappeared behind swinging metal barriers.

He sank into a plastic chair in the waiting room, his hands covered in Chloe's blood, staring blankly at the floor. The sterile smell of bleach and sickness filled his nose, suffocating him with the grim reality of the situation. Minutes stretched into agonizing hours, each second a ticking clock counting down the survival of his family.

A detective walked into the waiting area, his trench coat damp from the midnight mist that had settled over the city. He approached Ethan softly, holding a notebook, his expression grave with the weight of his profession. "Mr. Vance? I'm Detective Miller. I need to know exactly what you saw tonight at the estate."

Ethan looked up, his eyes bloodshot and hollow, the raw pain evident in every line of his youthful face. "She wanted the inheritance, Detective," Ethan whispered, the realization finally solidifying in his mind. "Victoria knew that if Chloe gave birth to a son, the entire family fortune would bypass her completely. She did this for money."

Miller nodded slowly, writing down the words that would ultimately seal Victoria's fate in a court of law. "We found security footage from the hallway upstairs," the detective revealed quietly, leaning in close. "The camera captured everything, Ethan. She didn't slip. Victoria clearly pushed her from behind after a bitter argument."

A cold comfort washed over Ethan, but it did nothing to ease the burning agony in his chest for Chloe. Just then, the heavy double doors of the surgery wing swung open, and a tired doctor in green scrubs emerged. His face was unreadable, a terrifying blank slate that could mean life or death for Ethan’s family.

Ethan stood up so fast his chair flipped backward, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribcage. "Doctor, please tell me they’re okay," he gasped, gripping the doctor’s arms with desperate strength. The doctor sighed softly, a sound that seemed to echo through the empty, sterile hallway, preparing to deliver the final truth.
