Chapter 5: The Collapse of the Empire
While Marcus was finding his humanity, the Grayson empire was imploding. Elena had proved to be a brilliant tactician but a ruthless leader, and the corporate culture she nurtured had turned toxic. Investors began pulling out, citing a lack of moral leadership. The board was in open revolt.
Marcus received a frantic call from his mother. The "matriarch" was no longer the icy queen of the boardroom; she was a woman whose legacy was crumbling.

“They are going to liquidate, Marcus,” she whispered. “Unless someone with the original vision steps in to steer the ship, the Grayson name dies by the end of the quarter.”
Marcus stood in his cramped apartment, looking at the city lights. He had a choice: he could let it burn, enjoying the poetic justice of watching Elena suffer the same fate she had engineered for him, or he could step in and save the livelihood of thousands of employees.
He realized that vengeance would only tether him to the past. He chose to help. He met with the board, not as a conqueror, but as a consultant. He offered his expertise, his remaining personal assets to bridge the debt, and his promise to restructure the company into something sustainable and ethical.

Elena was there, trembling with rage. “Why?” she spat at him. “Why save it for me?”
“I’m not doing it for you, Elena,” Marcus replied calmly. “I’m doing it for the people who actually work here. And because I want my daughter to see that her father is a man who builds, not one who destroys.”
