The bank refused.
The transfer had valid credentials.
A recognized token.
Two internal approvals.
Damian's forged approval was first.
Then Elena's.
Elena stared.
“I don't have authority over that account.”
Rachel's expression hardened.
“You do now.”
Someone had added Elena as an emergency household fiduciary three weeks earlier.
Vanessa's trap was almost perfect.
Steal Damian's money.
Use Elena's identity.
Make the paperwork point toward her.
Seven minutes.
Six.
Five.
Elena closed her eyes.
Then remembered the ledger.
“A number was written next to my name.”
Marcus pulled the backup image.
It wasn't a dollar amount.
It was a phone number.
Rachel called.
A private banking officer answered.
She asked one question.
“Did Elena Reyes authorize an emergency fiduciary change?”
“No.”
The officer checked the recording.
“No voice authorization exists.”
“Then freeze it.”
The timer stopped.
Eleven seconds remained.
Silence.
Then the screen flashed:
TRANSFER SUSPENDED.
Elena exhaled.
Damian closed his eyes.
Marcus whispered:
“We got it.”
Then another file opened automatically.
The title appeared.
MIA REYES — LEVERAGE NOTES.
