Chapter 2 - A Shocking Face From PastElena lowered her head quickly and grabbed her cleaning spray bottle tight.

Elena: Yes, sir, I am the new housekeeper hired by your wife today.
Ethan stepped closer to her with a look of utter confusion on his tired face.
Ethan: I searched everywhere for you after you disappeared seven years ago.
Elena: That was a very long time ago, Mr. Vance.
Ethan: Why did you leave without saying a single word to me?
Before Elena could answer, Victoria walked briskly back into the room with a cold smile.
She wrapped her arm around Ethan's elbow and pulled him away from the kitchen counter.
Victoria: Darling, you are home early from the office today.
Ethan: Victoria, why is Elena working as a maid in our home?
Victoria chuckled softly and adjusted her expensive silver watch on her wrist.
Victoria: The agency sent her over because we needed help around the estate.
Victoria: Do you two actually know each other from somewhere?
Elena kept her eyes glued to the shiny floor tiles beneath her boots.
Elena: No, ma'am, we just recognized each other from my previous job site.
Ethan looked at Elena with intense curiosity and deep emotional pain.
Ethan: That is not true, Victoria, we used to be very close friends.
Victoria's smile faded instantly as her eyes turned cold and incredibly sharp.
She glared at Elena like a wolf watching a defenseless sheep in the wild.
Victoria: Is that so? How sweet that you two have such a rich history.
Just then, little Lily peeked out from behind the small pantry door near the back.
She held her toy horse tightly against her chest and looked at Ethan with wide eyes.
Ethan turned his head and saw the small child standing in the doorway.
His jaw dropped as he noticed her bright brown eyes and soft facial features.
Ethan: Who is this little girl standing over there by the pantry?
Elena: That is my daughter, Lily, sir.
Ethan walked toward the child and knelt down on the cold floor in front of her.
Ethan: Hello there, little one, what is your name?
Lily: I am Lily, and I like to play with my toy horse.
Ethan felt a strange pull in his chest as he looked at the girl's soft face.
She looked exactly like his mother did in old framed photos from his childhood home.

Victoria noticed the connection instantly and felt a sudden wave of dark anger rise up.
Victoria: Ethan, leave the maid's child alone and come change your suit upstairs right now.
