Chapter 3 - The Threat In DarknessEthan slowly stood up from the floor and looked at his wife with serious eyes.

Ethan: We need to talk about her wages and accommodations in our home.
Victoria: She has work to do, Ethan, so stop distracting the help.
Ethan gave Elena one last long look before walking toward the large carpeted staircase.
As soon as his heavy footsteps faded upstairs, Victoria turned around with a snarl.
She marched right up to Elena and grabbed her by her shirt collar roughly.
Victoria: Listen to me very carefully, you pathetic little beggar.
Elena: Please, let go of me, you are scaring my child!
Victoria: If you try to tell him anything about the past, you will regret it deeply.
Elena: I just came here to work and earn a living for my daughter.
Victoria: I know who that kid really belongs to, Elena.
Elena gasped loudly as terror filled her heart and made her knees tremble wildly.
Elena: You don't know what you are talking about at all!
Victoria: I found the old medical letters in Ethan's private safe three years ago.
Victoria: I paid those doctors millions of dollars from our trust fund to hide the truth.
Elena: You stole my life and my child's future from us!
Victoria: I saved this family from your trashy presence and disgraceful poverty.
Victoria shoved Elena backward into the wooden pantry shelf with great force.
Lily began to cry softly as she hid behind her mother's shaking legs.
Lily: Mommy, I want to go home right now, please!
Elena: Shh, baby, it is okay, Mommy is right here with you.
Victoria picked up a heavy decorative wooden stick resting beside the kitchen display door.
She pointed the heavy wooden stick directly at Elena's trembling face with ultimate malice.
Victoria: You will Pack your trash and leave this estate before sunset tonight.
Elena: We have nowhere else to go, please give us until tomorrow morning!
Victoria: If you are still here when Ethan comes down, I will destroy you both.
Victoria turned around and walked out to the patio to make a quiet phone call.
Elena dropped to her knees and hugged her crying daughter tightly against her chest.
She knew Victoria was a dangerous woman with endless resources and dark legal power.
If Elena did not leave now, she might lose custody of Lily forever through false charges.

She reached into her small pocket and pulled out a worn-out gold ring on a chain.
It was the matching ring Ethan had given her before Victoria drove them apart seven years ago.
