Chapter 2 : The Red Stain of Betrayal

"Are you threatening a child?" Isabella’s voice trembled, but she pulled the bleeding boy tighter against her pristine white wedding gown. The crimson stains from his small, battered body spread across the delicate silk like a morbid blooming rose. She glared up at the imposing woman in the burgundy dress, her heart pounding a frantic, terrifying rhythm against her ribs.

The older woman’s lips curled into a sinister, calculated smile, her cold eyes devoid of any human warmth. "I am simply offering a word of caution, my dear Isabella. Children have such vivid, uncontrollable imaginations, especially after witnessing a deeply traumatic event. You wouldn't want to complicate this already tragic family emergency with his baseless, hysterical little lies, would you?"

"It’s not a lie!" Leo cried out, his small fingers digging desperately into Isabella’s arms. Tears streaked through the fresh blood smeared across his pale cheeks. "I saw her do it! Dad was in the study, and she hit him with the heavy bronze statue from his desk. He fell down, and there was so much blood everywhere! She smiled!"

Isabella felt a sickening jolt in her stomach, the sheer horror of the boy's words suffocating the breath right out of her lungs. This was supposed to be the happiest night of her life, a grand celebration. Instead, her new stepson was clinging to her for survival, and her husband was entirely missing. The opulent mansion now felt like a tomb.

"Where is Richard?" Isabella demanded, her voice finally finding its hidden strength as she stared down the menacing matriarch. She refused to cower anymore on the cold marble floor. "If what this terrified child is saying is true, I will call the police right now. You will not get away with this madness. Where is my husband, you absolute monster?"

"Your husband is currently indisposed, dealing with the unfortunate consequences of his own foolish decisions," the woman replied, taking a slow, predatory step forward. The sharp click of her heels echoed ominously in the cavernous foyer. "He thought he could rewrite my father's will and cut me out of the company. He learned a very painful lesson about loyalty tonight."

The chilling confession hung heavily in the air, confirming Isabella’s most terrifying suspicions. This wasn't just a domestic dispute; it was a ruthless corporate coup executed in blood. She slowly pushed herself up from the floor, keeping Leo securely shielded behind her back. She needed a weapon, an escape route, anything to get them out of this deadly house alive.

"You actually killed your own brother for money?" Isabella gasped, inching backward toward the heavy oak front doors. The rain outside continued to batter against the stained glass windows, masking the sounds of the isolated estate. "You are completely insane. You can't possibly think you can murder him and then just silence his only son to cover your horrific tracks."

"Who said anything about murder, my sweet, naive girl?" The woman laughed, a harsh, grating sound that made the hairs on Isabella’s neck stand up. "Richard is still breathing, though barely. He is locked securely in the wine cellar. But if you try to leave this property tonight, I guarantee you that neither he nor this little brat will survive."

Isabella’s mind raced as panic threatened to completely overwhelm her senses. The heavy oak doors were only a few feet away, but the electronic security panel glowed red, indicating the perimeter was locked down. She was trapped inside a digital fortress with a deranged woman. She had to outsmart her, or this wedding night would inevitably become their final resting place.

"What do you want from me?" Isabella asked, deliberately lowering her voice to sound defeated, hoping to lower the woman’s guard. She subtly slid her hand toward the heavy brass candlestick resting on the entryway table. "If Richard is still alive, let me see him. I will sign whatever legal documents you need. Just please, let the boy go free."

The woman paused, her dark eyes narrowing as she considered the desperate offer. "You will sign over your spousal proxy to my holding company," she stated coldly, pulling a folded document from her dress pocket. "Once the ink is dry, you can take the child and leave. But Richard stays here until the corporate board officially accepts the new transfer."

As the woman stepped closer to hand over the papers, Isabella saw her fleeting opportunity. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, she grabbed the heavy brass candlestick and swung it with all her might. The heavy metal connected solidly with the woman’s shoulder, sending her crashing painfully to the marble floor. The folded documents scattered uselessly across the polished stone.

"Run, Leo! Head for the kitchen!" Isabella screamed, grabbing the terrified boy's hand and sprinting down the dark, winding hallway. The blaring sound of the estate's internal security alarm suddenly pierced the silence, triggered by the fallen woman. Red emergency lights began flashing everywhere, casting chaotic, terrifying shadows against the walls as they raced frantically toward the servant's back exit.

They burst through the swinging kitchen doors, the cold stainless steel counters gleaming under the harsh red emergency strobes. Isabella frantically punched the override code into the service door panel. The lock clicked, and they tumbled out into the freezing, torrential rain. The chilling night air filled her lungs as they disappeared into the dense, protective darkness of the surrounding woods.

Behind them, the sprawling mansion glowed like a sinister beacon in the storm, a monument to greed and violent betrayal. Isabella held Leo tightly against her side, shivering in her ruined wedding dress as they navigated the muddy terrain. The battle for Richard’s life and the family legacy had just begun, but tonight, they had survived the absolute unthinkable nightmare.
