Chapter 6: The Turning Point

The package arrived two days later. Inside a padded manila envelope lay a stack of yellowing documents that held the damning weight of twenty-five years of deceit. Elara stared at the death certificate bearing her name, the ink smudged but legible, signed by a doctor whose offshore account matched a massive transfer from Arthur's private fund on the exact same date. There was also a contract, chillingly sterile, detailing the payment to Maria, Julian's biological mother, demanding her immediate departure from the country in exchange for a "healthy male infant."
Reading the contract, Julian punched the motel wall, fracturing the plaster. The sheer cruelty of the transaction sickened him. He was bought for a fraction of what Arthur spent on a luxury watch.

"He treated us like inventory," Julian spat, wrapping a towel around his bleeding knuckles. "Defective stock to be discarded, and replacement parts to be purchased."
"Then let's file for bankruptcy," Elara said, her eyes burning with a relentless fire. The fear that had paralyzed her at the wedding was gone, replaced by an icy, calculated determination. The annual Sterling Global Shareholders Gala was scheduled for the upcoming weekend. It was Arthur’s crowning jewel, a highly publicized event where he intended to step down as CEO and, originally, announce Julian and Elara's marriage as the ultimate consolidation of his power. It would be the perfect, devastating stage for his execution.
