Chapter 9: The Fall of the Patriarch

The screens flickered and suddenly illuminated the ballroom with glaring, high-definition images. Not profit margins, but bank statements. Wire transfers to offshore accounts. And then, the center screen displayed a massive, undeniable image of Elara’s falsified death certificate, side-by-side with the payout receipt to the corrupt doctor.
The crowd erupted in confused murmurs. Arthur turned around, his smug smile dropping instantly into a mask of pure, unadulterated panic. "Turn it off!" he screamed at the technicians in the booth. "Cut the power!"
But the hackers had locked the system. A recorded audio file began to play over the massive speakers. It was Eleanor’s voice, clear, steady, and full of righteous fury. “My husband, Arthur Sterling, kidnapped my daughter, Elara, twenty-five years ago. He faked her death to protect his trust fund. He bought a child, Julian, to replace her. And for decades, he has embezzled billions from the very shareholders sitting in this room.”
Chaos reigned. Reporters in the back of the room frantically began broadcasting live on their phones. Investors were shouting, demanding answers. Arthur, realizing his absolute control had just evaporated, abandoned the podium. He scrambled toward the VIP exit, shoving aside his own guests in a desperate bid for freedom.

Standing in his path, illuminated by the flashing cameras of the press, was Elara in her crimson dress, with Julian standing protectively at her side. Behind them stood half a dozen federal agents, armed with warrants drawn from the evidence they had anonymously leaked that morning.
"Checkmate, Father," Julian said, his voice cold and resolute.
