Chapter 13: Healing Wounds

A month after the high-profile arrests, peace finally returned to Vance Enterprises. Harrison Cole and Marcus Sterling were facing lengthy prison sentences, their vast fortunes seized to pay full restitution to the company and its charitable foundations.
In a quiet gesture of unexpected grace, Clara met with Marcus Sterling’s legal representative. Instead of seeking full liquidation of Marcus’s remaining personal assets, Clara arranged for a portion of his family estate to be placed in a trust dedicated to funding children's cancer research.
Her mother, Margaret Miller, walked into Clara's office carrying two warm mugs of tea. Margaret looked vibrant, her skin glowing with health as her recovery reached nearly one hundred percent.
"You gave Marcus’s family a way out, Clara," Margaret said, placing a tea mug on Clara’s desk. "After everything he tried to do to us."
"Hate only breeds more hate, Mom," Clara said gently, looking out the window at the sunny city skyline. "Marcus was blinded by bitterness over Victoria. If we took everything from his family, we would be no better than him."
Later that day, Clara visited the hospital wing. In one of the recovery rooms sat a young mother named Sarah and her six-year-old daughter, Lily, who was recovering from a successful life-saving heart procedure—funded entirely by the Margaret Miller Charitable Foundation.
"Miss Miller!" little Lily cheered, holding up a handmade drawing of a big bright sun and a hospital with flowers. "Look! I drew this for you!"
Clara knelt beside the little girl’s bed, her eyes filling with warm tears as she accepted the drawing. "It’s the most beautiful picture I've ever seen, Lily."

Sarah took Clara’s hands, her voice trembling with emotion. "When the doctors told me I couldn't afford the surgery, I thought I was going to lose my baby girl. You and your foundation gave my daughter her life back. I can never repay you."
"You don't have to repay anything, Sarah," Clara replied softly, hugging the young mother. "Just watch her grow up happy and healthy. That is all the reward we will ever need."
