Chapter 11 - Healing the Wounds
The winter season turned into spring, bringing a vibrant, breathtaking thaw to the mountain. The snow melted, revealing lush green pines and vibrant alpine wildflowers. Inside the lodge, a similar rebirth was taking place.

True to my word on the viral Facebook video, the first thing Alexander and I did was restructure the company’s finances to favor the staff. We reinstated the pensions with backpay. We upgraded the employee housing from cramped dorms to beautiful, modern apartments.
The response was overwhelming. The staff, who had walked on eggshells under Thomas’s tyrannical rule, began to smile. The service went from rigidly professional to genuinely warm. And the guests noticed.
Our Facebook and Instagram pages blew up, not with scandals, but with glowing reviews. We launched a campaign called 'The Heart of the Mountain,' showcasing the stories of our staff—Marcus the concierge who had worked there for twenty years, Maria the head chef who sourced ingredients from local farms. It was wildly successful. Bookings skyrocketed, breaking all previous records.
One afternoon, I was walking through the grand lobby, checking the floral arrangements, when Sarah walked in. She looked like a new woman. The heavy sadness was gone from her eyes.
"Sarah!" I hugged her warmly. "It is so good to see you. How is the new job?"
After Julian’s arrest, I had helped Sarah secure a position at a top-tier marketing firm in Denver.
"It’s amazing, Elena. I actually got promoted last week," she beamed. "But I came up here for a reason. I brought you something."
She handed me a manila envelope. "Julian’s sentencing hearing was yesterday. The judge gave him five years for corporate espionage and extortion. Thomas got ten."
A weight I didn't know I was still carrying lifted off my shoulders. It was finally over. The ghosts of the past were laid to rest.
"Thank you, Sarah. For everything," I said.
"No, thank you, Elena. You showed me how to fight back."
As Sarah left, I felt an arm wrap around my waist. Alexander pulled me gently against his side, pressing a soft kiss to my temple.
May you like
"Good news?" he murmured, his voice rumbling against my ear.
"The best," I smiled, leaning into his embrace.
