Chapter 7: A Fragile Alliance

By sunrise the following day, the strategic landscape had shifted completely. Julian and Clara were no longer playing defense; they were preparing an unprecedented legal and corporate strike.
At 7:00 AM, a sleek black sedan pulled up to the estate's gated entrance. Out stepped Evelyn Vance, Victor’s estranged daughter and a high-ranking senior partner at one of the country's most formidable corporate law firms. Despite her family name, Evelyn had severed personal ties with her father years ago due to his ruthless business tactics.
Julian greeted her in the formal reception room. Evelyn looked sharply elegant in a tailored navy suit, her eyes reflecting the same fierce intellect that characterized the Vance family.
"I received your encrypted file transmission at midnight, Julian," Evelyn said without preamble, setting her leather briefcase on the table. "If these files from Clara's father are authentic, my father hasn't just been stealing money. He was actively falsifying safety reports for Vance Logistics shipping vessels to cut overhead costs."
"They are authentic, Evelyn," Clara said, entering the room with a bound folder of her father’s original audited ledgers. "Here are the original signed affidavits."
Evelyn reviewed the yellowed paper documents meticulously, her eyes scanning the signatures and corporate stamps.
"This is the smoking gun," Evelyn declared quietly. "My father managed to convince the board that your father was responsible for the initial budget discrepancies before his death. This proves my father was the sole architect of the shell companies. But we have a critical challenge."
"The board meeting at nine," Julian noted.
"Precisely," Evelyn nodded. "Victor has bribed three key board members to vote in favor of stripping your executive authority the moment the meeting opens. If he succeeds, he gains full operational control of the server infrastructure for twenty-four hours—enough time for him to execute a wipe command on the company's internal databases."

"What do we need?" Julian asked.
"We need a distraction that keeps Victor from calling the vote until the Federal Bureau of Investigation completes their review of these original documents," Evelyn said. "And for that, Clara, we need you to step into the lion's den."
