Chapter 6: A Sister's Choice

The two guards stepped forward, blocking the only exit from the study. Julian immediately shielded Elena, putting himself between her and the men.

"Victoria, stop!" Julian commanded, his voice ringing with legal authority. "If you do this, you will be charged with assault and conspiracy. You are ruining your entire life for a woman who treated you as nothing more than a bargaining chip!"

"Shut up!" Victoria shouted, though her hand holding the iron poker began to shake.

One of the guards lunged at Julian. Julian ducked, swinging his arm to deflect the guard's grip, but the second guard grabbed Julian from behind, forcing him against the heavy mahogany desk.

Victoria stepped toward Elena, raising the iron rod. "Give me the charter, Elena! Give it to me, and I'll let you walk out of here!"

Elena stood her ground, looking directly into Victoria's tear-filled eyes. She didn't look at her with fear or hatred, but with deep, sorrowful pity.

"Do you really think this will bring you peace, Victoria?" Elena asked softly. "All your life, you were taught that love must be bought, that family is a battlefield, and that anyone weaker than you deserves to be crushed. Look at yourself right now. You are terrified."

Victoria froze, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "You know nothing about me!"

"I know what it feels like to be trapped," Elena continued, taking a slow step closer, ignoring the guard standing nearby. "I spent three years sweeping your floors while you yelled at me. I thought you hated me because I was poor. But now I see the truth. You were terrified that if you weren't rich, if you weren't perfect, no one would ever love you."

Victoria's grip on the iron poker loosened slightly. "My mother... she said father never loved me as much as he loved your mother..."

"Our father loves you," Elena said gently. "But Sofia poisoned your mind. You don't have to carry her crimes, Victoria. You can end this right now."

Outside, sirens suddenly echoed through the night air, red and blue lights flashing against the villa's rain-slicked windows. Gabriel had alerted the local police the moment he noticed Victoria’s security detail moving toward Marbella.

The two hired guards panicked, releasing Julian and fleeing through the side patio doors into the storm.

Victoria dropped the iron poker. It clattered loudly against the marble floor. She sank to her knees, burying her face in her hands, weeping uncontrollably.

Elena walked over to her half-sister. Instead of walking away, Elena knelt down on the cold floor beside Victoria and placed a gentle hand on her trembling shoulder.

"It's over, Victoria," Elena whispered softly. "You don't have to fight anymore."

Minutes later, the police entered the villa, arresting Doña Sofia, who was found hiding in the guest house trying to shred financial documents. As Sofia was led away in handcuffs, she screamed at Victoria for failing her.

Victoria sat silently in the back of an ambulance, wrapped in a warm blanket, watching her mother be taken into custody. For the first time in her life, Victoria saw her mother clearly—not as a protector, but as a manipulator who had used her as a weapon.
