Chapter 7: The Homecoming

Chapter 7: The Homecoming

The following evening, the private jet carrying Don Fernando De La Vega landed at Madrid Airport.
At seventy years old, Don Fernando was a man of commanding presence, though his silver hair and lines of exhaustion spoke of his frail health. Supported by a walking cane, he stepped into the private lounge where Elena, Julian, and Gabriel awaited him.
When Don Fernando saw Elena, he stopped in his tracks. Tears welled in the old man's eyes. In Elena's face, he saw the exact reflection of the only woman he had ever truly loved.
"Elena..." he breathed, his voice cracking with emotion.
Elena felt a rush of feelings she had buried for decades—anger, grief, longing, and hope. She walked toward him slowly.
Don Fernando dropped his cane, wrapping his arms around his daughter, pulling her into a tight, trembling embrace. "Forgive me, my child," he wept softly. "I searched for you... I was told you were gone... Forgive me for not being there to protect you."
"I forgave you the moment I read your letters," Elena replied, holding her father tightly.
That night, the family gathered at the Madrid estate—not for a lavish party, but for a quiet, long-overdue accounting of the truth.
Don Fernando sat in his study with Julian and Gabriel, reviewing the full extent of Sofia’s fraud and Victoria’s involvement. His heart broke as he realized how deeply infected his home had been by jealousy and greed.
Later that evening, Don Fernando called Victoria into his study.
Victoria walked in with her head bowed, expecting to be cast out onto the streets, stripped of her name and wealth. She stood before her father, unable to meet his eyes.
"Father... I know I don't deserve your mercy," Victoria said quietly, her voice devoid of its former arrogance. "I helped mother. I tried to destroy Elena. I will leave the house tonight, and I won't ask for a single euro."
Don Fernando looked at his daughter for a long moment. He felt profound sadness, but also a glimmer of responsibility for having been absent while Sofia raised Victoria in an atmosphere of toxicity.
"You have committed grave errors, Victoria," Don Fernando said sternly, yet with underlying sorrow. "You tried to ruin an innocent girl's life. Legally, you could face charges for your role in tonight's sabotage."
Victoria nodded silently, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"However," Don Fernando continued, "Elena has asked me not to press charges against you."
Victoria gasped, raising her head in utter disbelief. "Elena... asked you that?"
"Yes," Don Fernando said. "She believes you were manipulated by your mother. But forgiveness does not mean freedom from responsibility. Your trust fund is permanently frozen. You will no longer live a life of unearned luxury."
"I understand," Victoria whispered.

"Starting tomorrow," Don Fernando declared, "you will work for the foundation—not as an executive, but as a junior administrator. You will earn a modest salary, live in a simple apartment, and spend your days serving the very people your mother stole from. If you show true repentance and dedication for two years, I will reconsider your place in this family."
Victoria fell to her knees, overwhelmed by a mixture of shame and gratitude. "Thank you, Father... Thank you."
