Chapter 14 - THE LAST BILL The chase led them across the city.
The scarred man knew they were coming.
He left clues.
Old photographs.
Dead drops.
Messages.
He wanted them to follow.
Finally, they reached an abandoned theater.
The man waited onstage.
He held the final hundred-dollar bill.
“You think this ends tonight?” he asked.
Daniel raised his weapon.
“No.”
The man smiled.
“It ends when you understand who created Argent.”
Claire stepped forward.
“Tell them.”
The man laughed.
“Your government didn't create us.”
He looked at Daniel.
“Your friends did.”
Daniel froze.
Former officials.
Former agents.
People he had trusted.
The system had been built from inside.
Then the theater lights came on.
Hundreds of files appeared on the screen.
Names.
Dates.
Payments.
Murder orders.
Everything.
Emily whispered:
“We have it.”
The man smiled.
“No.”
He pressed a button.
The files began deleting.
Daniel lunged.
Ethan grabbed the final bill.
