CHAPTER 14: PROTECTING THE LIGHT

CHAPTER 14: PROTECTING THE LIGHT

The judge’s gavel fell with a heavy, echoing thud that resonated throughout the historic courtroom.
"In light of the evidence submitted by the defense," the judge ruled sternly, looking down at Lord Sterling over his spectacles, "the motion for an asset freeze is denied with prejudice. Furthermore, this court refers Lord Sterling and Sterling & Cross to the Crown Prosecution Service for immediate investigation into potential money laundering and obstruction of justice."
A wave of murmurs swept through the gallery. Sterling’s face turned bright red with rage as he swept his papers off the table and glared at Evelyn with venomous hatred.
"This isn't over, Evelyn," Sterling snarled in a hushed, dangerous tone as he brushed past her in the corridor. "You have no idea what you've unleashed."
"I know exactly what I've unleashed, Sterling," Evelyn replied coldly. "Justice."
While the legal win in London was swift, the victory was immediately overshadowed by a chilling notification on Marcus’s secure satellite phone. It was an urgent alert from the estate's private security team back in the countryside.
Marcus pulled Evelyn into a quiet side office. "Evelyn, we have a situation at the estate. An unidentified vehicle attempted to breach the secondary gate twenty minutes ago."
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat, panic instantly surging through her veins. "Lily? Is Lily safe?!"
"She is secure in the underground safe room with our head of security, Sarah," Marcus reassured her quickly, putting his hands gently on her shoulders to ground her. "The breach was repelled without injury. But they were targeting her. Sterling's fixers are escalating. They know they can't beat you in court, so they're trying to hit you where you love."
Evelyn’s shock melted into a fierce, blinding maternal rage. She took a deep breath, her eyes blazing with absolute resolve.
"We are going back right now," Evelyn said softly. "No more playing defense. It's time to destroy Sterling’s network completely."
Two hours later, Evelyn’s private jet was airborne, returning to her estate. Inside the cabin, Marcus sat across from her, breaking down tactical blueprints of Sterling’s private offshore holdings.
"Sterling operates through a hidden syndicate called the Apex Group," Marcus explained, pointing to a diagram on his tablet. "They use an exclusive offshore bank in Zurich—Banque de Genève Private—to launder illegal profits and pay off private security mercenaries. If we can gain access to that bank's internal ledger, we can expose every member of the syndicate worldwide."
Evelyn looked out the window at the endless sea of clouds below. "How do we get that ledger?"
May you like
"We don't hack it," Marcus smiled faintly, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "We go to Zurich and take it directly from the bank's managing director."
"Then prepare the team," Evelyn said, leaning back in her seat. "They came after my child. They are about to learn what happens when you wake a lioness."
