Chapter 7 - The Betrayal Within

Marcus finally confessed.
He had been Eleanor's lawyer for twenty-two years.
He had forged documents.
Moved money.
Threatened witnesses.
Changed medical records.
But he insisted he had never known where Evelyn went.
"I was told she was leaving voluntarily," he said.
Victoria stared at him.
"You expect me to believe that?"
"No."
Marcus placed a flash drive on the table.
"I expect you to see what I found."
Victoria connected it to a secure laptop.
A video appeared.
The footage was grainy.
Security camera footage.
A woman walked through the mansion hallway carrying a suitcase.
Evelyn.
She stopped near the front door.
Eleanor entered the frame.
They argued.
The audio was missing.
Then Evelyn slapped Eleanor.
Eleanor grabbed her wrist.
The screen went black.
Mia covered her mouth.
Victoria leaned closer.
When the footage returned, Evelyn was being escorted into a car.
A man stood beside the vehicle.
Victoria recognized him.
Her father.
But their father had supposedly been overseas that week.
Mia whispered:
"Why would Dad be there?"
Victoria stared at the screen.
"Because Eleanor didn't do this alone."
The room went silent.
