Chapter 9 - THE RUNWAY AT THE EDGE OF THE CITYVictor had been taken.

Lily refused to wait.
Naomi tracked the convoy to a private airfield.
The runway stretched into darkness.
Rain fell across the hangars.
Inside one warehouse, Victor was tied to a chair.
Julian Cross stood behind him.
The lawyer who had spent fifteen years cleaning Blackwood crimes from paperwork had finally revealed his true allegiance.
"Victor," Julian said.
"You taught me everything."
Victor looked at him.
"I taught you loyalty."
"No."
Julian smiled.
"You taught me that loyalty is what frightened people call survival."
Lily entered.
Julian raised a gun.
"You."
Lily stared at him.
"Where is Ethan?"
Julian pointed toward a private jet.
"On his way to a new family."
Victor's expression changed.
"Touch my son again."
Julian laughed.
"You still think this is about your son."
He revealed the truth.
Ethan was valuable because his DNA connected the old Blackwood bloodline to the foundation's hidden assets.
A child could become evidence.
A child could become leverage.
A child could become a symbol.
Lily understood.
That was why Elena had fought so hard.
Not because Ethan was an heir.
Because he was proof.
Proof that the family had survived everything.
The confrontation erupted.
Victor broke free.
Naomi stormed the hangar.
The jet began moving.
Lily ran toward it.
The wheels lifted from the runway.
Ethan was still inside.
Victor jumped onto the moving aircraft.

Lily screamed his name.
Then the plane disappeared into the storm.
