Chapter 6: A Mother’s Fury

The public humiliation at the gala broke whatever sanity Richard had left. Driven by despair and fueled by Julian Thorne’s promises of endless wealth, Richard agreed to execute Thorne’s darkest plan.

It was 3:00 AM on a rain-slicked Tuesday. The Vance estate was shrouded in heavy fog.

Through a compromised service tunnel—its access codes sold to Thorne by a corrupt former maintenance worker—Richard and four heavily armed mercenaries slipped onto the grounds. Their target was simple: the second-floor nursery.

Inside the nursery, the nightlight cast a soft amber glow over the white crib. Maya sat in a rocking chair, cradling little Leo, who was squirming softly in his sleep.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the nursery were kicked open.

"Don't make a sound, Maya," Richard hissed, stepping into the room holding a silenced pistol. Behind him stood three masked men carrying tactical gear. "Give me the boy."

Maya didn't scream. She didn't panic. Her heart hammered against her ribs, but her maternal instincts transformed into pure, lethal focus. She slowly stood up, placing herself directly between Richard’s gun and the crib.

"Richard," she said quietly. "You are walking into a trap."

"Shut up!" Richard spat, his eyes wild and bloodshot. "Thorne has a boat waiting at the docks! Once I have the baby, Marcus Vance will sign over fifty-one percent of Vanguard Holdings to get his precious grandson back! I will finally have the power I deserve!"

"You really are a fool," Maya sighed softly. "You think Julian Thorne wants to share power with you? You are a pawn, Richard. The moment you hand him my son, Thorne will execute you and drop your body in the bay."

Richard hesitated, a flash of doubt crossing his frantic features. "Liars! All of you are liars!"

The Lethal Trap

"He’s right about one thing, Richard," a voice echoed from the shadows of the nursery balcony.

Julian Thorne walked into the room, wearing a tailored trench coat, holding his own weapon. His eyes were cold as ice as he looked at Richard with utter contempt. "You served your purpose bringing me inside the perimeter. But you really didn't think I'd let a pathetic worm like you stay alive to link me to a kidnapping, did you?"

Thorne raised his gun toward Richard’s chest.

Before Thorne could pull the trigger, the ceiling lights flashed blindingly bright white. A deafening alarm blared through the estate.

The nursery walls—built with reinforced ballistic steel concealed beneath decorative wallpaper—automatically slid shut, sealing the crib and Maya behind a thick sheet of bulletproof glass.

From the concealed side panels, Victor and eight elite Vance tactical guards surged into the room with terrifying speed.

Gunfire echoed brief and sharp, instantly disarming Thorne’s mercenaries. Richard dropped his gun, collapsing onto his knees, screaming in terror as he covered his head.

Thorne attempted to run toward the balcony, but Victor stepped into his path, delivering a crushing blow to Thorne’s ribs that folded the billionaire like a piece of paper.

Behind the bulletproof glass, Maya pressed her hand against the surface, looking down at the groveling Richard.

"I offered you twenty dollars to walk away, Richard," Maya said through the intercom, her voice filled with absolute finality. "Now, you will spend the rest of your life reflecting on what your pride cost you."
