Chapter 5: The Legal Siege

Chapter 5: The Legal Siege
The courtroom was a sterile, unforgiving place. Julian stood before a judge, his hands clenched at his sides, as his mother’s lawyers painted a picture of him as a reckless, emotionally compromised man. They brought in "experts" to testify about the trauma of being raised by a billionaire who prioritized a hidden life over social expectations.

"Mr. Blackwood," the opposing counsel asked, his voice dripping with condescension, "would you agree that your decision to keep your daughter a secret—denying her a family name and a place in society—was an act of psychological harm?"
Julian looked toward the gallery. He saw Elara, sitting with her nanny, looking small and confused in the sea of suits. He had tried to keep her hidden to protect her, but he had only ended up isolating her.

"I was wrong," Julian said, his voice echoing through the silent room. "I was wrong to believe that the world she was born into was safe enough for her. I kept her secret not because I was ashamed of her, but because I was terrified of what the world would do to her. I failed to protect her from the shadows, but I will never fail to protect her from the people who cast them."
His testimony was raw, unscripted, and deeply human—everything the Blackwood empire was not. It wasn't the performance the board wanted, but it was the truth the judge needed to hear.
