CHAPTER 2: THE ECHOES OF VENGEANCE

CHAPTER 2: THE ECHOES OF VENGEANCE

"No one can save you anymore," the woman in the black dress cold-bloodedly whispered. Her voice cut through the silent hall like a sharp blade. The bottle of champagne hovered high in the air, ready to crash down. The young girl on the floor glared up, her eyes wide with rage, spit mixing with dark blood upon the polished tiles.
The heavy glass bottle shattered against the marble, but not against the girl's head. Instead, a tall man in a dark suit stepped forward, taking the blow to his arm. Wine and glass spilled everywhere, splashing across the high-society guests. The crowd gasped in horror, paralyzed by the sudden violence unspooling before their eyes at this glamorous charity gala.
"Are you insane, Victoria?" the man growled, clutching his bleeding arm while kneeling to shield the trembling girl. "She is just a child! You can’t commit murder in front of everyone!" Victoria merely smirked, stepping over the puddle of champagne. Her cold gaze never left the helpless child pinned down by her ruthless guards, who refused to let go.
"A child?" Victoria chuckled softly, a terrifying sound that sent chills down everyone’s spine. "This creature is the daughter of the man who ruined my entire family. Her father stole everything I loved, and now, she pays the ultimate price." She gestured to the guards, ordering them to haul the screaming young girl to her feet without any mercy.
The girl spat blood onto Victoria’s pristine black gown, defiance burning bright in her young, tear-filled eyes. "You think you’ve won, Victoria?" she screamed, her voice hoarse with pain. "My father knows what you’re doing! He is already coming for you, and when he arrives, he will tear your whole empire down to the ground!"
Victoria didn't flinch. Instead, she leaned in, her lips inches away from the girl’s ear, whispering words that made the child’s face go pale. "Your father isn't coming, sweetheart. Who do you think handed you over to me tonight? He sold you out to clear his own massive debts. You were traded away like a worthless chip."
Horror instantly replaced the rage in the girl's eyes. The truth hit her harder than any physical blow ever could. Her father, the man she adored and trusted above all else, had betrayed her to his worst enemy. The room spun around her as tears finally spilled down her blood-stained cheeks, her last sliver of hope completely shattered.
"Drag her to the basement," Victoria commanded coldly, wiping the blood from her gown with a silk napkin. "The main event of the evening is about to begin, and our guests deserve a show." The guards roughly pulled the girl away, her terrified screams fading into the dark, labyrinthine hallways of the massive, opulent mansion.
Among the crowd, a mysterious young reporter named Liam quietly backed away into the shadows. He had captured every single agonizing detail on his hidden camera. Liam knew that if he stayed, Victoria’s men would silence him forever. But he also knew he held the ultimate key to bringing down the corrupt elite once and for all.
Liam slipped through the side exit into the freezing night, his hands shaking as he accessed an encrypted satellite phone. "I have the footage," he whispered into the receiver, watching heavy security patrol the perimeter. "She’s holding the girl in the lower vaults. Send the extraction team right now, or she won't survive the night!"
Inside the mansion, Victoria addressed the wealthy elite, holding a fresh glass of wine as if nothing terrible had happened. "Apologies for the minor disruption, ladies and gentlemen," she announced smoothly, her expression flawless. "Tonight, we celebrate justice long overdue. And soon, you will all witness the complete downfall of our enemies."
Deep beneath the grand ballroom, locked in a freezing concrete cell, the young girl wiped the blood from her chin. The heartbreak of betrayal slowly transformed into a cold, terrifying resolve. She looked up at the flickering ceiling light, her trembling hands clenching into tight fists. "You betrayed me, father," she whispered to the shadows.
"And you made a monster out of me, Victoria," the girl continued, her voice trembling no longer, replaced by a dark, dangerous calm. "I will not die in this cell tonight. I will survive, and I will burn both of your worlds to ash." The innocent girl who entered the gala was dead; a vengeful phantom was born.
Footsteps echoed down the damp hallway, approaching her cell door. The heavy iron lock turned with a sharp, metallic click. The girl stood up straight, ignoring the intense pain in her ribs, her icy eyes fixed on the entrance. Whoever was coming through that door was about to find out that she was no longer a victim.
The heavy door swung open, revealing a figure clad entirely in tactical black gear. "We don't have much time," the intruder said, raising his visor to reveal Liam’s focused face. "Your father didn't betray you—that was Victoria's psychological trap to break your spirit. Your father sent me to get you out before it's too late."
A shockwave of conflicting emotions surged through the girl's chest. She had almost surrendered to absolute despair, but now a spark of hope reignited within her heart. "Is he really alive?" she asked, her voice cracking. Liam nodded grimly, handing her a concealed weapon. "He’s waiting outside. Now let’s move before the guards realize I’m here."
They crept stealthily through the dark subterranean corridors, dodging heavily armed patrols at every turn. Liam’s tactical training guided them effortlessly through the maze of security cameras and laser grids. Every step brought them closer to freedom, but the constant alarm bells echoing from above proved their escape had already been discovered by Victoria.
Red emergency lights began flashing along the concrete walls, casting blood-like shadows over their path. Loudspeakers blared Victoria’s ruthless voice: "Lock down all exits! Do not let them leave this building alive!" The sound of heavy footsteps and tactical boots rushed down the stairwells, surrounding them from every available direction in the tight space.
"Take cover!" Liam yelled, shoving the girl behind a reinforced pillar just as bullets ricocheted off the concrete walls. The deafening gunfire filled the narrow corridor, smoke choking the air. Liam fired back with precision, suppressing the advancing guards, but their numbers were overwhelming. They were trapped with nowhere left to run or hide.
"Give up, Liam!" a voice shouted from the end of the hall. Victoria stepped into view, shielded by bodyguards holding heavy ballistic shields. "You can’t escape my compound. Hand over the girl, and I might let you live." Liam looked back at the girl, seeing absolute determination shining brightly in her young, fierce eyes.
"We stand together, or we fall together," the girl said firmly, gripping her weapon with steady hands despite the chaos. She refused to be a helpless captive any longer. Looking up, she noticed a massive steam pipe running directly above Victoria’s tactical squad. Without hesitation, she aimed her gun precise at the valve overhead.
She pulled the trigger, hitting the rusted valve directly. High-pressure, scalding steam violently erupted from the pipe, instantly blinding Victoria’s guards and filling the hall with white fog. Painful screams echoed through the corridor as the mercenaries dropped their shields in pure agony. "Now! Run!" Liam roared, grabbing the girl’s hand as they charged through.

They burst through the heavy blast doors into the chilly night air, where an armored SUV slammed to a halt right in front of them. The rear door slid open, revealing her father holding a rifle, his face pale with intense worry. "Get in! Quick!" he shouted over the roaring engine and chaos behind them.
The girl leapt into the vehicle, hugging her father tightly as bullets peppered the reinforced glass of the retreating SUV. Looking out the back window, she saw Victoria standing in the doorway, consumed by helpless rage as her empire began to crack. The fight was far from over, but vengeance had officially shifted into their hands.
