CHAPTER 8: THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE

CHAPTER 8: THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE

Inside the backseat of a moving undercover vehicle, Evelyn sat in silence, looking down at the silver hard drive in her lap. The weight of the world felt anchored to that single piece of metallic hardware.
"If we just trade the drive for my father, Victoria will kill us all the moment she gets it back," Evelyn reasoned, her tone analytical and calm despite the agonizing fear in her chest. "She can't allow anyone who knows about this data to survive."
"She thinks we are going to play by her old rules," Liam said, monitoring satellite connections from his dashboard. "She thinks this is a quiet, hidden war fought in shadow vaults and back alleys. But her power comes from her public image and her political leverage. We need to take away her shield."
Evelyn looked up, a revelation taking root in her mind. "We don't just broadcast the raw files. We translate them so everyone can understand what she did. We make the entire city see who she truly is."
"How?" Liam asked. "She controls all the major local networks. The moment we start a live broadcast, her technical team will trace and sever our transmission within ninety seconds."
"Not if we scatter the transmission across every public digital billboard, news feed, and social platform simultaneously," Evelyn replied, her eyes flashing with brilliance. "Mother built a master override key into this drive. It was designed to hook into the emergency broadcast system in case of corporate sabotage. If we patch this drive into the central fiber-optic relay at the city communications hub, Victoria won't be able to turn it off without shutting down power to the entire state."
Liam looked at her in absolute awe. "The Central Broadcast Hub on 5th Avenue... it’s high security, but it’s a civil facility, not a private Sterling building. Victoria’s mercenaries won't be able to open fire there without provoking immediate federal intervention!"
"Exactly," Evelyn said. "We turn the public into our armor. We broadcast the proof of her crimes live to millions. Once the entire country sees the evidence, her political allies won't dare protect her, and her security forces won't be able to cover up her actions."
"And your father?" Liam asked carefully.
"Victoria called us to Blackwood Docks because she expects us to deliver the drive there," Evelyn said, setting her jaw firmly. "We will give her what she wants—a confrontation. But while she is waiting to execute her trap, we stream the truth to every screen in the nation."
Liam nodded proudly, plugging the silver drive into his interface to initialize the cryptographic sequence. "Connecting to the central fiber node. We have thirty minutes before the automatic upload queue goes live."

Evelyn reached into her vest pocket, pulling out a small gold medallion her father had given her for her twelfth birthday. She clutched it tight, feeling the warmth of his love radiating through the cold metal.
"Hold on, Dad," she whispered silently toward the dark sky. "I’m coming for you. And this time, we finish it."
