Chapter 16 - THE QUESTION One evening, Ethan took Elena to the old garden.
Moonlight covered the stone path.
“I have something to ask you.”
Elena smiled.
“You always sound serious when you say that.”
He reached into his pocket.
A small velvet box appeared.
Elena stopped breathing.
“I don't want to erase the past.”
He opened the box.
Inside was the matching silver ring.
“I want to honor it.”
Tears filled Elena's eyes.
“Ethan…”
“I loved you then.”
He took her hand.
“I love you now.”
Elena looked toward the mansion.
Lily was watching through the upstairs window.
She pressed both hands against the glass.
Elena laughed through her tears.
“She's watching.”
Ethan smiled.
“Then we better give her something worth watching.”
