CHAPTER 1 — THE STRIKE OF TYRANNY

The Vance estate had been designed to look untouchable.
Perched high above the Pacific cliffs, the mansion was a monument of white marble, glass walls, and impossible wealth. An infinity pool stretched toward the ocean as if the house itself owned the horizon. Exotic flowers bloomed beneath sculpted palms. Crystal chandeliers glittered through open terrace doors.
Tonight, the estate was supposed to celebrate fifty years of the Vance dynasty.
Instead, it became the place where that dynasty began to die.
Eleanor Vance stood in the center of the marble courtyard, surrounded by billionaires, politicians, lawyers, celebrities, and executives who had spent decades laughing at her jokes because they were too frightened to challenge her.
In her hand was a baseball bat.
On the ground before her was Mia.
Eight months pregnant.
Her pink dress was stained with blood. One hand protected her stomach while the other trembled against the hot marble.
“Get up,” Eleanor ordered.
Mia struggled to breathe.
“I didn't do anything.”
“You came back.”
Those three words carried decades of hatred.
Mia had been sent away years earlier, kept distant from the Vance empire because Eleanor considered her weak and inconvenient. But Mia had returned after learning fragments about their missing mother.
She had wanted answers.
She had found a monster.
“You thought you could defy me in my own house?” Eleanor hissed.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Eleanor raised the bat.
Then she swung.
The impact sent a scream across the courtyard.
Mia collapsed.
A few guests looked away.
Others lifted their phones.
But no one stepped forward.
Eleanor raised the weapon again.
Then—
BOOM.
BOOM.
Two enormous engines roared beyond the gates.
Every head turned.
Two matte-black Hummer H4s tore down the private driveway, their tires screaming against the stone.
They stopped directly across the courtyard entrance.
The doors opened simultaneously.
Black-clad tactical operatives poured out.
Weapons remained lowered, but their movements were precise enough to silence every person present.
Eleanor froze.
One of her lawyers whispered:
“That's Thorne security.”
Another voice answered:
“Oh God.”
The rear door of the lead vehicle opened.
A woman stepped out.
Victoria Thorne.
The most feared corporate strategist in America.
The woman who had built an empire capable of swallowing companies whole.
And, more importantly—
Eleanor's eldest daughter.
Victoria looked across the courtyard.
Her eyes found Mia.
For one second, the entire world seemed to stop.
Then Victoria's face changed.
The billionaire disappeared.
The sister remained.
“Secure the house,” she said.
Her voice was calm.
Terrifyingly calm.
“And nobody leaves.”
May you like
Eleanor slowly lowered the bat.
For the first time in fifty years, the queen of the Vance dynasty looked afraid.
